Description:
You will be given thrity minutes to build the tallest structure that is sturdy and stays up for at least one minute. The structure ia built solely on straws and masking tape. It must stand alone and the only thing that it touches is the floor and it cannot lean onto anything.
Brainstorm:
We figured out that we needed a strong base so we made a base with 3 triangle that are taped to the ground. WE also figured out that some straws you could squeeze and fit into others and some don't have to since the size is smaller.
Procedure:
After we finished building the base we tried to made a one by one straw structure. This structure was barely supported, the main support was the three triangles at the bottom.
SOUL Reflection:
S: The supports held the structure in place causing it to be balanced. This was one of the main reasons we won.
O: In the end, we barely had any time so we decided to stack up as many one by one straw tower. Thanks to some luck and determination we ended up pulling it off.
U: For very tall structures they don't have to have a lot of support throughout the entire structure they only need a very strong base to keep it onto the ground.
L: It took us too long to think of an idea that everyone agreed on, and that took a lot of time away from actually building. So the reason we won was a leap of faith.
WISCR: The letters that I think applied to me most is (W, well rounded) and (I, insightful critical thinker). I was an insightful critical thinker because I gave the team the idea of putting on straw in another to gain height. I was also well-rounded because I was building and giving ideas at the same time. I also suggested inspiration that I gained from looking at our competitors builds.
I think my team was well-rounded because we used the fields that we were best in to contribute to the project. We also communicated very well and supported each others ideas.
