Description: This is a project we created on Fusion 360. We made a design to print on a soap mold. This project was to show our appreciation for a person who is important in our lives. I made mine about my mom. We'll be 3D printing a soap mold to make a piece of soap for a loved one. The soap mold will feature a meaningful and creative design. Then, we'll give them the soap on Valentine's day!
Brainstorm: I decided to make a piece of soap for my mom to show her my love and appreciation. My catchphrase was Thank you for being a great mom! I decided to make a mold of a heart, because it expresses kindness and love.I added a design of a mom hugging a child. To add all the image I needed, I made my mold in Fusion 360 and used the Fit Point Spline tool several times when creating this project.
This is the image I traced to create the design on top of the heart.
Procedure: To begin, I created my base. Then I used Fit Point Spline to create a big heart and two smaller ones. I later decided to add a second heart layer on top of my bigger one. I went onto Google and found a picture of a mom hugging a child that I liked and was easy to trace. Looking back, I think I could've found something that was easier to trace with more detail, but it's okay. Then, I put that screenshot into Fusion 360 and traced it using the Fit Point Spline tool. Because mine was one continuous line, I had to trace on either side of the line. After extruding it all and making a few edits, I sent it to the 3D printer to make my prototype, which ended up being my final model.
This was my model in Tinkercad. I started 3D printing this model.
This is my model printed out. I ended up using this as my final mold.
This was my silicone mold I used to make my soap!
This was my final soap. It didn't come out that smooth and I think it got a little bit messed up when it was in the box. The words also didnt come out very well.
Reflections:
S - One of my strengths for this project were my hearts. I created these without a reference image in Fusion 360 and this procedure really taught me how to use the Fit Point Spline tool and the duplicate tool to create the smaller hearts.
O - In this project, I got the opportunity to explore Fusion 360 further, which gave me more general knowledge of the app. Ms. Tran helped me a lot with everything I needed in this project, and by doing so, she taught me everything I had problems with.
U - This project gave me an understanding of how to use specific tools in Fusion and gave me skills on how to navigate challenges.
L - One of my limitations was that I needed to wait for an available printer to print my project. This significantly delayed my project's completion by one class period, but I made the most of my time productively by making edits to my project and working on my portfolio.
WISCR:
W - As a well rounded Pinewood student, I helped others with their challenges and limitations while also diligently working on completing my own.
C - I was a clear communicator to Ms. Tran whenever I faced obstacles and needed to ask for help. I explained thoroughly what I needed help.
