Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get a copy of my book?

Students and their families are responsible for obtaining copies of summer reading books. Some copies may be available from the PRHS library or from the Northern Tier Regional Library

What if the books have mature content?

It is the responsibility of students and their families to preview and research books for content. When available, links to Common Sense Media reviews have been provided on the grade-level suggested book lists.

What if I can't find a book I want to read on my suggested grade-level book list?

We hope that all students can find something that they would like to read throughout the summer. Here are some ideas:

Do I have to read physical books to get credit?

Students need to either read or listen to the entire book to get credit for the summer reading program. Audiobooks and e-books are completely acceptable and encouraged! Both the PRHS Library and Northern Tier Regional Library offer different formats of books, including Kindle books that can be downloaded to your phone or Kindle as well as audiobooks that can be accessed through the Libby app. Some books have been made into movies. We ask that you read the book and use the movies for enrichment only.

I am a new student. Do I need to complete summer reading?

Students enrolling in the district during the summer should contact their 2023-2024 scheduled English teacher about a time frame for completion of summer reading assignments. You can search for faculty email addresses here

Who do I contact if I have questions?

You can contact the 9-12 English Department Chair, Elissa Mitchell at emitchell@pinerichland.org if you have questions.

You can also contact the student's English teacher for specific requirements for the summer reading assessment.
