The Battle of the Books is a competition designed to encourage reading and to give recognition to those who like to read. Team members read from a list of 8- 10 books selected by the Battle of the Books committee, and compete with other teams on Battle night by answering trivia questions based on the books. Team members work together during the battle to answer the questions. Although one team is awarded first place, we think all of the participants are winners.
Students who attend Eden Hall Upper Elementary School may participate on a BOB team. Each team should consist of 3-5 members in the same grade, and must also have an adult team manager who will attend on battle night. A student may only participate on one team. Participants should organize their own teams and the team manager should submit a registration form through this website. The team manager helps the team get organized, but may not compete.

Here are the 2025 Kick-Off presentations
The adult team manager may be a parent, teacher, relative or anyone over the age of 18 who will serve as the contact person between the team and the EHUE BOB committee.
The team manager is responsible for:
completing the team registration form
communicating with parents of team members about Battle of the Books
keeping the team members motivated, and on track with their reading
Making sure the team poster is completed and turned in on time
arranging team transportation to and from the site of the Battle of the Books Tournament.
The team manager is required to attend the battle.
The best thing a team manager can do is to help the team members prepare is to make sure they are staying on track with their reading and paying attention to the details as they read.
Here are some other tips:
Conduct weekly check-ins to make sure the team members are on track with reading.
Assign each book to two team members and have them quiz each other
Make (or have the kids make) a self-checking quiz to learn the authors' names
Do a Google search for Battle of the Books questions for your title
Search site like Kahoot or Quizizz for quizzes about the title
Want to go all in? Read ALL the books and make your own questions!
A team poster should be submitted during the week of your Battle. The poster will be displayed on the chairs assigned to your team, helping you identify your seating. The EHUE teachers will vote on their favorite poster.

After the moderator reads a question, each team will have 30seconds to confer and decide upon the answer to the question. The team will write down the answer and the author's last name correctly. Answers must be complete and specific. Four points are awarded for the correct response and an additional point is given if the team writes the author’s last name (spelled correctly.)
The question will not be multiple choice. They will be recall questions in which we will mention the title, i.e. "In the book Bud not Buddy, what was the main character's name?" The team will have to provide the author's last name (spelled correctly) with each answer. The authors' last names are underlined in the "Battle of the Books Titles" slides presentation.
