The Virtual Classroom Connection
For the Virtual Connection Challenge, we were given the objective to create a classroom item that students could use while attending school online. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, schools have been forced to transition to an online learning option. Due to this transition students and teachers have been forced to adapt to a new life.
During the pandemic, students have spent the majority of their time sitting down at a computer. To address this problem, our team designed a Laptop Stand Organizer. This is no ordinary Laptop Stand in that it can hold your laptop at an ideal angle to provide better posture and help you be more comfortable at your desk. It also allows you to store pencils, erasers, and other school supplies in some small bins that can be attached and easily removed from the laptop stand. The bins allow you to keep your supplies close to you while at your desk while providing a way to be more organized as well.
To begin with, we started by thinking about how to make the laptop stand most convenient. To do this we designed a triangle block and then hollowed it out to create a triangle wall. Then we added supports so the stand would not collapse. After that, we tested to find the ideal angle for the laptop stand which we found by testing many different angles using books and asking people what they found to be most comfortable. Finally, we designed some cups to hold pencils, erasers, other school supplies, mechanical pencil refills, and arts and crafts materials. After considering all of these factors, we came up with our final design: a light and portable frame, comfortable angled that includes detachable cups for storage.
