Band

History

The band program at R.F. Staples has a history that spans more than six decades. Through the years, students at our school have participated in festivals and performance opportunities across Canada.

Grade 7 Band

All grade 7 students at R.F. Staples will take band for half of the school year. This opportunity is given as a part of the assigned complimentary courses that we offer in junior high.

What about Grades 8 & 9?

If after grade 7, a student decides that they want to take band again in grades 8 & 9, they need to speak to Ms. Shelton at the beginning of the school year. There will be an opportunity to opt out of other assigned complimentary courses and into band for the full school year. Band will not take up all of the complimentary courses, students will still be able to participate in four of them in addition to band.

Our grade 8/9 band is currently scheduled at the same time as the Sr. High band class and the two classes will travel together. The plan is to have them take part in the Barrhead Rotary Music Festival, as well as a band camp at Camp Nakamun next school year.

For more information, please contact Ms. Shelton.
