HSC 1013 Medical Terminology is a new course in the Academy and would be particularly good for your students interested or curious about health care professions. The course is required for anyone thinking about any career in the medical or health care fields—all the way from emergency first-responders to nursing to exercise therapists to medical doctors. Even better, here is how we will run the schedule:
The course is online the first 8 weeks, so meeting with Heather Daulton will be to just check in, get questions answered, and make sure things are going well in the class. The second 8 weeks, Heather will be taking the students into the nursing simulation lab and the students will be applying the terminology and learning health care skills (taking blood pressure, starting IV’s, heartrate, temperature, CPR, basic life support, etc.)
Students could, for example, pair the HSC course up with the computer science course or with the American Government course (during a presidential election!) and get a really unique experience by being in the SBU Academy.
