6th Grade Math Skills

Grade 6 Math Skills

Grade 6 Math Skills is an extra math class designed to assist students that may struggle in mathematics. The purpose of this class is to develop better basic math skills using a center based approach, while attempting to make math more enjoyable for the student, as well as build confidence in one’s ability in an effort to help the student perform better in the regular math class setting. Our skill and center based approach attempts to close the gap with where the student is currently, and where the student needs to be, in order to have the opportunity to be successful with the Common Core Curriculum Standards and standardized testing each year. By monitoring each student’s improvement in the form of a short assessment, every 2-3 weeks, the curriculum can adapt accordingly. Each student has their own unique set of math skill developmental needs, making the math skills class an ever evolving curriculum. Several strategies could be used to help students gain a better understanding of how to solve problems.
