Empowering Students and Transforming Futures
We are thrilled to provide you with an update on our NSF initiative supported by the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program. This project is designed to provide our students with invaluable mentored work experiences in computer information systems, offering on-campus, remote, and hybrid opportunities and externships with leading businesses and industries.
Real-World Experience for Real-World Success - Our students engage in exciting projects like mobile application development, cybersecurity, and computer support. These hands-on experiences are more than resume builders; they are pathways to increased interest, persistence, and success in STEM fields.
Training for Tomorrow's Workforce - To maximize the benefits of these work experiences, our students will receive training in crucial employability skills, including communication, teamwork, and project management. They are mentored by a dedicated team of faculty, industry professionals, and peers, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Professional Development for Faculty - We are committed to serving all students, including Hispanic students, with excellence. This project will also provide our faculty with professional development focused on a growth mindset, strengthening their ability to support and inspire every student.
Expanding Our Reach - Initially piloted at Phoenix College, this innovative framework will be expanded to four other two-year HSIs in our region. Our vision doesn't stop there – we aim to extend this model to different STEM fields, creating a replicable approach for two-year institutions to foster student graduation and entry into STEM careers.
Research and Results - Our project explores how integrating cross-sector partnerships enhances STEM learning and retention. We will develop sustainable mechanisms to maintain these partnerships, increasing student retention and workforce readiness. Our findings will be shared widely, contributing to the broader knowledge of how to achieve success in STEM education at HSIs.
Join Us in Celebrating Student Success - This initiative is more than a project; it's a movement towards empowering our students and transforming their futures. With the support of the NSF, we are building a brighter future for our students and the broader STEM community. Together, we are creating opportunities, fostering innovation, and celebrating the successes of our STEM students, particularly Hispanic students, at two-year HSIs.
Let's share in the work together to make a lasting impact!
