Integrating Literacy for Equity and Inclusion (ILEI) is a professional development opportunity supported by Phoenix College’s Title V grant. ILEI is a community of practice for instructors interested in examining their own practices regarding disciplinary literacy development in their courses. Following WestEd's nationally recognized Reading Apprenticeship Framework, the program takes an inquiry-based approach to our practice as instructors and experts in our discipline: how can we make the invisible parts of our disciplinary literacy visible? How can we best support our students as they approach complex texts within our courses? How can we encourage students to take ownership of the disciplinary literacy approaches they will need to be successful in achieving their goals?
