Below is a collection of links to find open educational resources, including works in the public domain and CC licensed materials. For information on OER efforts within the Maricopa Community College District, visit https://www.maricopa.edu/students/academic-support/open-educational-resources-oer.
Looking for OER media? Here are some good starting points:
Wikimedia: media file repository of public domain and creative commons licensed images and videos. Particularly useful for STEM-related images that can be difficult to locate elsewhere.
Flickr Creative Commons: Image sharing service that allows users to license their work using CC.
Pixabay: Public Domain, high quality photos.
Extensive repository of additional sources curated by Joyce Valenza
PressBooks: Platform for creating and locating OER textbooks and other resources. Used by MCCCD.
Project Gutenberg: Digitized books in the public domain. Most are offered in a variety of formats, including HTML, and multiple ebook formats.
OpenStax: Free textbooks online. Faculty can make an account to access faculty-specific materials. Students can access PDF versions of the textbook for free or buy a hardcopy version.
A number of search engines and websites exist to search for OER that can be used in the classroom or for online learning. Some examples are:
EDSITEment!: open-source, humanities-focused teaching materials created and maintained by the federal government.
Science.gov: Created by the Science.gov Alliance, this website searches thousands of federal science publications from participating federal agencies, including the NIH, NASA, the EPA, and more.
Canvas Commons: A repository of Canvas courses and modules created by instructors and CC-licensed.
Mason OER Metafinder (MOM): a metasearch engine canvassing 21 different repositories.
OASIS (Openly Available Sources Integrated Search): access to various open resources, such as textbooks, courses, interactive simulations, and modules.
OER Commons: "Find Free-to-Use Teaching and Learning Content from around the World. Organize K-12 Lessons, College Courses, and more."
OERizona: Join the OERizona Network on OER Commons and explore the repository of resources created by Arizona educators.

On March 7, Kali and Janelle gave an overview of intellectual property, fair use, and public domain. They explained the basics of Creative Commons licensing and demonstrated several open source repositories and aggregators for various types of open source media and materials. The slides below are from that session.
