CHARMS / CutTime Emails

Sunday, April 14, 2024

Greetings!

For a while, I will continue to send a message both in Charms and in Cuttime as we are in transition between the systems and I don’t want to miss anyone.

TOMORROW! Band Booster Meeting

Next meeting: Monday, 4/15/24 at 7:00 PM in the Band Room (enter Door C) we would love to have all band parents join us. Back when I was a new band parent, and my oldest son was still in 8th grade it was helpful for me to attend a Band Booster meeting and meet some other parents. Join us!

Howdy!

Are you looking for an easy fundraiser where you earn money on things you are already purchasing? You can do e-gift cards right in the store before you pay for your items. There are also physical gift cards. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Alice Ramos, PMK Scrip Coordinator Email: Ramos806@comcast.net  Call/Text mobile: (806)729-0016 if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Sheri Campeau

What is RaiseRight? (formerly known as "Scrip")

RaiseRight refers to gift cards that can be used at stores, restaurants, and online retailers. When you pay for your gift cards, using the https://www.raiseright.com/  website or Raise Right app, a percentage of your purchase (i.e., a rebate) will be credited to your student’s Charms account for either marching band or winter guard fees, or marching band items (e.g., shoes, gloves, or guard equipment), or solo/ensemble fees, or upcoming band trips.

How to use RaiseRight

https://www.raiseright.com/ is the website that Penn Bands uses to manage our RaiseRight program. This website is interchangeable with their mobile website shopwithscrip app, and Scrip gift cards can be ordered on either site. There are several ways to buy Scrip.

You can order physical/plastic Gift Cards when the PMK Scrip Coordinator places the monthly Scrip order. Note that some vendors only offer physical cards.

You can Reload or ReloadNow to an existing physical gift card that was initially purchased through Scrip. Some, but not all, vendors offer this option. For example, parents have had the same Meijer and Subway gift cards for years. They just keep reloading them. Meijer is an example of a Reload because it may take a day or two to process. Subway is an example of a ReloadNow because it processes the reload within minutes.

You can order eGift cards for some retailers and travel companies. Just print out or copy or type in the online gift card number when shopping. In addition, for many retailers, you can use shopwithscrip on your phone, buy a gift card, and have it available almost immediately on your phone.

For the 2024-2025 school year, RaiseRight orders for physical/plastic gift cards will be placed every month. Reminders will be posted on the Marching Kingsmen Parents and the Penn Guard Facebook pages 1 to 2 weeks before the orders are due. Typically, the RaiseRight cards are available for distribution by the end of the following week. Card distribution is coordinated with the RaiseRight coordinator each month. You can place your Reload/ReloadNow and eGift card orders any time you want. Physical gift cards can be placed anytime, but they will remain in the queue until the PMK Scrip Coordinator submits the order.

How Do I Get Started?

The first step is to create your free account by visiting either https://www.raiseright.com/ and clicking on the “Join a Program” button at the top. The enrollment code for Penn Band is: LE34847B162L7 Fill in the form and follow the simple registration instructions. The account must be registered to a parent or guardian but be sure to enter your student’s name where required so that their account can be credited.

We require that all orders be paid online with either a bank account or a credit card through https://www.raiseright.com/. Although the option to ‘pay by check’ will appear, too, the Penn Band Boosters does NOT accept checks for Scrip payments. When you pay for your RaiseRight purchases via your bank account, your payment is debited to your account and transferred securely with a small fee to GLSC (currently $0.15 per order). When you pay with you credit card, a larger fee (currently 2.6% per order) applies. To link your bank account: Log into your RaiseRight account and select Dashboard on top of the page, then Family Functions, then Payment Types, and follow the instructions for entering your checking account information. It might take up to two business days to get the bank account activated. To use your credit card for a purchase, add your credit card information at checkout on https://www.raiseright.com/. There is lots of helpful information on https://www.raiseright.com/ under Support on the top of the page! You must choose the bank account or credit card payment option (and not payment by check) when you check out on www.raiseright.com . For each order, 90% of the total rebate earned will be credited to your student’s account and the remaining 10% goes to Penn Band Boosters. Currently, rebates are credited to student accounts at the beginning of each month.

MyScripWallet

This is not an app you can find in the App Store. Instead, type in myscripwallet.com into your browser on your phone. When it opens, choose “Add to Home Screen” and it will work like an App. You sign in with the same username and password that you use on shopwithscrip.com. From here you can order Gift Cards; Reload/ReloadNow your existing reloadable gift cards; or order eGift cards that will be saved in your “Wallet”. Most eGift cards are available within a few minutes and have a bar code and a card number that can either be scanned on your phone or copied/typed in. You do not have to use the full amount of the gift card at once; any remainder will be saved in your “Wallet”.

Keeping track:

The rebates you earn via RaiseRight will accumulate and be deposited into your student’s Charms account at the beginning of each month. You can easily keep track of how much you’ve earned on shopwithscrip.com by clicking on “Dashboard” > “Family Functions” > “Reports”. Just remember that the report will show the total amount earned; you will need to multiply that number by 0.9 to calculate the 90% that goes to your student’s band account.

A few policies:

It is your responsibility to know the "usage guidelines" for all your Scrip purchases. You may check those guidelines and terms of use at https://www.raiseright.com/  For failed payments: You will incur a $30 fee that must be paid to the Great Lakes Scrip company. You will pay any fees from the Penn Boosters bank account related to the failed payment. Your order will be cancelled or withheld until all fees are paid. You may be disqualified from utilizing the Scrip fundraiser in the future. Refunds: eGift card and Reload orders are non-refundable. For physical gift cards, there will be a 10% restocking fee (minimum of $5) as well as shipping and handling costs. Refunds must be made within 30 days of the order date. Recurrent refunds may lead to a family being disqualified from utilizing the RaiseRight fundraiser in the future. Ship-to-Home option: Any scrip cards that are lost in transit are not the responsibility of the Penn Band Boosters. Scrip gives 100% of the rebates earned to the Penn Band Boosters, a non-profit organization. The Boosters generously earmark 90% of your earnings for your student’s band account. If your student quits band, transfers from Penn, or has excess funds in their band account upon graduation, 100% of the earned funds remain property of the Penn Band Boosters. Other options may be available, including transferring the funds to a younger sibling’s band account, but this is at the discretion of Mr. Northern and the Penn Band Boosters.

Summary

The Scrip fundraising program is a great way to pay for your band/guard fees, marching band items, or upcoming band trips with rebates on money you are already spending. Parents or guardians can sign up at MyScripWallet.com on your phone or ShopWithScrip.com online.

The enrollment code for Penn Band is: LE34847B162L7.

All orders must be paid for with either a bank account or a credit card.

eGift cards are available immediately for use.

Physical gift cards are ordered by the RaiseRight Program Coordinator each month and distributed the following week.

For new accounts, be aware that it can take up to two business days to get your bank account activated.

As an educator, Severn has extensive experience directing big bands and teaching both jazz studies and trumpet. He has been on the faculty at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music in England as well as a regular visiting artist at Penn State University. From Mr. Northern

Good morning: I am looking for a parent to speak on behalf of the benefits of their child’s participation in marching band at three events:

Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00pm

Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:00pm

These are for the marching band information meetings. (Note: These are meetings are aimed at families new to marching band or are looking for more information, but they are open to anyone.)

Wednesday, March 6 at 7:45 and 8:30pm at Discovery Middle School at their 8th grade band concerts.

We just need a compelling minute or two of how your child has benefited from marching band participation. This would be a brief message, but more meaningful coming from a parent.

Sunday, November 5, 2023

Greetings!

I hope you had a great time at Kaleidoscope! What a great evening.

Warning to new band families: November can seem a bit crazy. You get used to the very predictable Marching Band schedule and then November hits and there is so much going on! We do our best to keep you informed about everything band, but you need to start checking your child's Canvas class for band to find band class-related rehearsals and assignments. Blanket Sale

We have less than 50% of our blankets remaining to sell! And the cool evenings are just beginning take advantage of the weather change and reach out to your friends who spend time outdoors in the cooler months and tell them they need one of our awesome blankets. Once these are sold out, we will not have them for 2 more years, so contact your friends who have middle schoolers as well. A blanket would make a great holiday gift! Remember, your child earns $10 into their Charms account for each blanket sold.

All credit earned in August & September for blankets sales has been credited to students’ Charms accounts.

Blankets will be available for purchase at the home football game on 10/27 and any time at Dana’s house (by the Harris Library). Other arrangements can be made, too. Contact Dana Sullivan, danasullivan4@me.com
