Make sure you complete the *SECOND GRADE* survery ASAP!
We will be using the Reading Street basal along with various supplemental reading resources, such as novels and classroom magazines.
~Reading Street will encompass reading, comprehension, grammar, phonics & writing
~Guided Reading will allow for flexible grouping. Groups will be adjusted according to skill or reading level; depending on what is most needed for reading success. Reading levels fluctuate and will be determined according to DIBELS results, weekly Reading Street assessments, and classroom observation.
Encourage your child to read, read, read!!!
Try to have your child read for 20 minutes each day or MORE if they can sustain!
Keep track of your kiddo's reading each day in the calendars at the front of their planner. Please make sure to keep on top of recording this daily. We will be collecting monthly totals!
Your child will be encouraged to fill in the calendar/chart daily with the number of minutes read each day.
When they meet their goal at the end of the month, special incentives will be rewarded (ex. eating lunch online with their teacher, planning special activities to take the place of ‘regular’ agenda items, inviting guest readers to read, etc.).
My goal is to get your child EXCITED about reading! I will do my best to help them understand that reading opens doors to many facets of life you cannot always experience ‘in person’ but CAN through a book!
