AMLA offers a free Classical Guitar Program for students ages 10 to 16. This after-school program began this fall and will run until June, culminating in a final performance. As a special incentive, students who complete the program will also have the opportunity to keep the guitar provided by the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society to recognize their hard work and commitment.
The Classical Guitar Program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of classical guitar, with a particular emphasis on Latin American music. Our curriculum includes:
Guitar technique: proper hand positioning, posture, and basic fingerpicking.
Repertoire: classical guitar pieces from various composers, including those from Latin America.
Music theory and sight-reading: a foundational understanding tailored to classical guitar.
Ensemble playing: opportunities to collaborate with peers in ensemble pieces.
We are currently looking for eight more students to join this enriching program. Guitars are provided to students for the class duration, so prior experience or ownership of an instrument is optional.
