The STEP team recognizes that student's needs are unique to their own experiences. We are here to provide students with the support they need to be academically successful in school and give them a platform to share their voice safely.

Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy
Individual services work to reduce stress, improve relationships, and help improve student's functioning at school, home, and other areas of the community. When a student receives individual treatment at Martha Washington, the clinician will often include play/games, artwork, and any other interest identified by student to engage them in meaningful conversation. Sessions tend to run between 30 to 45 minutes as needed based off of student, family, and school staff feedback.

- Anxiety/Depression
- Anger Management
- Self-Esteem
- Short-Term Stress/Trauma exposure
- Responsible Behavior Training/Learning Coping Skills
- Bullying/Conflict Resolution
- Social Skills/Healthy Communication
- Grief and Loss (death, changes in home environment, and etc.)

Group Therapy
Group Therapy
Group services work to promote emotional growth, personal problem-solving, social skill development, and relationship building/reinforcing.
When a student receives group treatment at Martha Washington, the clinician will often include play/games, artwork, and any other interest identified by the group of student to engage them in meaningful conversation and to practice learned skills. It can also be helpful in having students feel understood, accepted, and connected to other students.
Sessions tend to run between 30 to 45 minutes during a set time each week. Attending group sessions is a good way to build community and help reinforce to students that they are not alone in their angst.
Topics for groups can vary based on need identified by the group students.

Behavioral Consulting Services
Behavioral Consulting Services
Our Specialized Behavior Consulting (SBC) services is a collaborative approach that brings clinical knowledge, training and intervention support to educators, and collaboration with the family to explore barriers to learning.
The SBC will work collaboratively with school staff and the family to implement interventions related to behavior, social skills, or anger management. When receiving our SBC services, it is common that the student's behaviors will be observed and assessed to seek suggested solutions to help assist in removing barriers to learning. Families are updated and asked to collaborate in these discussion as they can assist with roll out of an intervention such as a behavior chart, check-in/out, and etc.
*Behavior consulting services do not take the place of a student needing to be evaluated for an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)/504 plan, but can be a good alternative or starting place before seeking more formal, long-term services.

Family services can vary based off of what the family says their need of support is.
Services can look like:
If a family is in need of therapeutic services, the clinician will set up a meeting to collaborate with all family members and the Family Peer Specialist to discuss areas of focus.
In formal family therapy the goal is to improve communication, problem-solving, and understanding and/or managing changes in family such as deaths, moves, divorce, illness, or entry of a new family member. Here at Martha Washington, we can provide short term support to help with managing concerns and reinforcing a space of healthy communication and understanding while also working with the family to seek more trusted, formal services in the community.
Services can look like:
- Short-Term Family Therapy
- Parent Workshops
- Resource Connection
- Support in seeking services by having the family work with our Family Peer Specialist.
