Q. What are the requirements entering AVID?

A. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. They may not have more than 8 unexcused absences and 8 latenesses at the end of freshmen year. Students must all fill out an application and explain why they are interested in AVID. An interview may take place if the requirements are not met.

Q. Can AVID students participate on Northeast’s athletic teams?

A. Yes. AVID students can and do participate in the many sports Northeast offers. These include Boys’ sports: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track & Field, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Wrestling, Badminton; and, Girls’ sports: Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Indoor Track & Field, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Badminton.

Q. Can AVID students join Northeast’s clubs and activities?

A. Yes. Northeast High School offers one of the most comprehensive selections of extracurricular activities and clubs throughout the region. These include academic enrichment, service opportunities, leadership groups, multicultural organizations, arts and culture, school spirit, hobby interests, teen parenting support, and extensions of the school day. AVID also has it’s own Technology Student Association (TSA).

Q. Can AVID students take Advanced or AP classes?

A. Yes. Almost all academic courses at Northeast have an Advanced version and we have a large selection of AP courses. Interested students must receive prior approval from the Department Chair of that subject. Over 30% of AVID students take one or more advanced and/or AP courses.

Q. Does AVID prepare students for careers or college?

A. AVID prepares students for both.
