ABOUT
The Philippine Hospital Infection Control Nurses Association (PHICNA), Inc. was founded in 1994 by a group of young professionals to highlight the role of nurses in infection prevention and control. The organization was established due to the need to train and develop competent Infection Control Nurses (ICNs) in the country. Ms. Dominga Gomez from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) founded PHICNA.
PHICNA was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1994 as a non-profit organization. It aligned its Constitution, By-Laws, and activities with the Philippine Hospital Infection Control Society (PHICS), Inc.
PHICNA is also part of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) under its specialty program.
The organization has contributed to national infection prevention and control policies, including:
DOH Administrative Order No. 2022-0051 (Revised National Infection Prevention and Control Policy)
National Standards in Infection Prevention and Control for Health Facilities (2005, 2009, rev. 2021)
Policies on Patient Safety, Occupational Safety, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Outbreak Control.
PHICNA is a leading resource for training, education, and research in infection control, offering at least three-four learning opportunities annually. The organization remains committed to nurturing and advocating for Infection Prevention and Control Nurses (ICNs) in the Philippines.

The PHICNA shall be the lead nursing organization in the prevention and control of infections in healthcare settings.

To develop competent, empowered and dedicated infection control nurses through practice, education, training, and research.
