HEALTH CORNER

Dear Families,

In an effort to promote good dental health and for your convenience, we have invited the PA Smiles Mobile Dentists to visit our school on January 3, 2024 and January 12, 2024.  They will be providing examinations as well as  X-rays, fluoride treatments, cleaning, and any needed corrections.  All services will be billed to your insurance company.  Uninsured families may receive information on financial aid.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has developed a Health Code which requires proof of a dental examination by the end of  grade K or 1, grade 3, and grade 7.   However, all of our students , grades K-8, are welcome to participate in this program.

If you are interested in having your child participate and your child has not been seen by a dentist in the last 6 months,  you can sign up using the following link:  https://www.myschooldentist.com/PHCSPA_schsrm

Please sign up prior to December 15, 2023

Equity

Equity Statement

Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship (PHCSE) recognizes that we are part of an academic and cultural community committed to fostering integrity, respect, and justice. Aiming to learn from each other, we reject all forms of hate and discrimination. To ensure this, our school will continue to adopt and use inclusive practices and programs that create an opportunity for all.  In the classroom, we promote active learning about diversity that allows both students and faculty to effectively acquire cultural competence. Both in and beyond the classroom, we envision an inclusive community.

November Lessons

In November, scholars learned about American Indians/Native American Culture! Some created a venn diagram and compared Pocahantas, Powhatan and Settlers. Others explored Lennis Lenape, the Native Americans who settled in early Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Several enjoyed videos of the traditional jingle dress or a passionate TED Talk of a Native American hoop dancer overcoming fear and pressure by sharing his hoop dance at his school cultural fair.

What a wonderful opportunity students and staff had as they maximized in learning what "indigenious" means.  Further discussion regarding the culture and way of living were shared. Finally, connections and similarities were made as traditions within our own family and community unfolded.
