Academics

2nd Grade:

Students in second grade are learning about opinion writing. Students had to write a letter to a family member giving reasons and details as to why Thanksgiving should not be canceled this year.

Fifth Grade ELA:

This month in 5th grade students used their writing skills to create cards and write letters to veterans at the Southwestern Veterans Home in honor of Veteran's Day.  This activity was both a service learning project and an opportunity to practice writing skills.

Sixth Grade ELA:

Sixth grade students used dry erase markers and their desks to work collaboratively to revise a thesis statement for a TDA essay.

First & Third Grade

Technology

The week before Thanksgiving Break the students in Ms. Dunbar's First Grade Class and Mrs. Padovano's Third Grade Class were introduced to the Bee-Bot coding robots. They learned about the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and read the book Balloons Over Broadway. The students then worked in groups to design a float. The students then coded the robots to complete the parade route and used green screen technology to edit the videos. They ended the week by reading the book How To Catch A Turkey and then used the Bee-Bots to show the sequencing of the story on the mats.
