FORBES CAREER AND TECHNICAL CENTER

For the first time ever, eight of our 8th grade students had the opportunity to attend a career shadow day at Forbes Career and Technical Center. These students had the chance to shadow not one career, but three careers! By participating in career shadowing, this allows students to gain insight and knowledge around potential careers and interests they may be thinking about. As we prepare our 8th grade students to move forward with their future and academic career this opportunity was invaluable! ~ Ms. Dickinson

PHCSE Career Fair

Ms. Dickinson coordinated the first ever Career Fair with Forbes Career and Technical Center on March 27. Students in grades 3-7 had the opportunity to talk to, meet, and learn about 17 different careers from other students at Forbes. Some of the careers that were present included Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Design, Emergency Response Services, Health Science Technology, and Multimedia Design. This was an amazing opportunity for our students to learn and gain some hands-on experience with different careers. The event was a huge success and we look forward to doing it again in the future!

A Message From the School Nurse

Dear Sixth Grade Families:

In an effort to promote better health, the Pennsylvania Department of Health has developed a Health Code which requires proof of a physical examination by the end of sixth grade.

Please submit a copy of your child’s most recent physical exam at your earliest convenience.

Keep in mind that there are additional immunization requirements for 7th grade entry.

  • 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)
  • 1 dose tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap), if five years have elapsed since last tetanus immunization.

It is imperative that your child’s immunization records be complete in order to attend school PRIOR to the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

According to the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Health Departments, students who do not have documentation of these vaccines, an exemption on file, or a written and signed plan to receive these vaccines, WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO START SCHOOL IN THE FALL.

If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse (412-793-6471 ext 203 or donna.wallace@phcharter.org.
