Hello students and parents!
Welcome to 2nd quarter! I apologize for not getting this out last week. With working on report cards and a short week it slipped my mind. I hope all is going well for everyone and you all enjoyed the long weekend! It has been awesome weather outside! Thank you for reading my weekly notes, I really do appreciate it! Have a great week!
One issue I am having with some of the 8th graders (enough of them that I need to let you know) that I feel the need to tell you about, is the constant talking while I'm trying to teach and shouting out answers at inappropriate times. I have talked to them multiple times, but I also need your support from home on this too. I may start emailing parents of the ones who continue to be disruptive in class on the day it happens. Also, detentions may be given.
Here's some reminders for this week:
Grades will be put in this weekend.
Homework is due the next day unless otherwise noted. Absent/Late work should be turned in asap. It is the student's responsibility to get the notes missed from another student. My Absent Work Wall will have a paper in there for the student who was absent on the day they were absent. On that paper is listed what we did that day(lesson with page numbers), what was graded(if anything), and what was assigned(if anything). Anything missing will be a 0 in the grade book until I receive the paper and grade it. I try to have everything updated by Friday.
Papers will go home on Friday. The students are to put their papers in their folder. Parents, please check folders. There may be a Do Over paper in there that the student may do again and hand in for a better grade. It is up to the student to redo the paper and hand it in. The redo paper is attached to a clean sheet of paper already labeled and ready to go. They need to hand both papers in for me to grade it.
In math, it is important to show your work. I need to see how you got your answer to be able to help find where a mistake may have been made. This is in effect now for 2nd quarter: if work is not shown, I will take 10% off from their score. I have explained multiple times to show their work, but it seems to still be an issue. Please, it helps me as well as the students! They see where they made the mistake(and hopefully don't do it again) and I see it so I can help them.
Students should check the board on my room door every morning so they do not forget any materials. Students need to bring their planners to class every day. I have them write their assignments down daily.
Students should be going over their notes daily. By doing this, when there is a quiz or test, they are prepared for it. It is also a great study habit to have as they prepare for high school.
