Background

The Youth@Work/SYEP is an award-winning, nationally-recognized program and has been one of the County’s signature programs for more than 30 years. The program is a key component of the County Executive’s Proud Priorities (Youth Development) and helps young people launch careers by providing them with free job readiness training and paid employment at government, nonprofit, and business worksites in Prince George’s County and the greater Washington, DC area.

The SYEP@PGCPS program offers six weeks of enriching entry-level summer employment within schools and offices. Youth are assigned to administrative, beautification or information technology jobs and have the opportunity to grow their knowledge and develop valuable workforce skills. 

We strive to provide program participants with the opportunity to:

• Learn new job skills while working 

• Experience professional development opportunities

• Gain exposure to a diverse range of careers 

• Participate in job readiness training 

• Network with industry leaders 

• Build  positive working relationships

• Earn pay for meaningful and rewarding work experiences
