Calling All
Environmental Stewards

WHY BE A STEWARD?

Sometimes actions we take can harm or help the environment. As an environmental steward you can support a

cleaner and healthier environment by making informed decisions and by taking action in your own home or

neighborhood. The Schmidt Center wants you to be a leader and set an example for others. Select one action

below or come up with your own. (Images and underlined words are hyperlinked to more ideas and actions.)

Saving water at home is simple, take shorter showers, turn off the water when brushing your teeth, and more. Make signs and post them around the house to remind the family.

Reduce the amount of energy you use by turning off the lights, opening windows, unplugging devices, and more. Make signs and post them around the house to remind the family.

Make sure you think before you purchase an item - is it really needed (reduce)? Reuse an item if possible before getting another. And, recycle an item when it can no longer be used. Create a recycling area in your home and post directions on the container. Take a short quiz to test your recycling knowledge!

With the help of an adult(s) organize a litter pick-up in your neighborhood. Make sure you have proper equipment and supplies and above all else be safe. For support reach out to Prince George's Proud.

Spend some time outside or looking out the window for a few minutes a day. Inspire others to do the same through drawings, words, poems, stories, videos, other forms of creative recording.

he top submissions each month will receive a Schmidt Center t-shirt. To be eligible students must submit proof of at least one action. For more details and submission directions click here: TAKE ACTION
