Ocie S. Banks is a well-studied and accomplished chorus and vocal teacher. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education (BME) from George Mason University. There, he studied voice under the tutelage of world-renowned and Grammy Award winner Professor John S. Aler. His Choral Music Education professor and mentor is Dr. Lisa A. Billingham.
Ocie participated in the 2015 ACDA Voices United Conducting Masterclass with Dr. Bruce Chamberlain of Arizona State University. His conducting teachers include Dr. Lisa A. Billingham and Dr. Stan Engebretson. Having studied under world-renowned instructors, Ocie has learned valuable techniques, which assist him in his abilities as a vocal coach, young conductor, and music instructor.
Being a life-long learner, Ocie is an active member of both the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Banks also currently serves as the secretary of the Maryland/DC Chapter of ACDA and as the Recording Secretary of the Maryland Choral Educators Association (MCEA).
A man of strong faith, Banks honorably served as the Minister of Music and Worship Leader at Victory Praise Church of God in Washington, DC. He has since taken a more intimate approach with small groups and one on one lessons. Ocie teaches preachers and public speakers the skills needed to execute their craft with precision.
In March of 2019, Ocie became the Founder and CEO of OSB Music, LLC. The vast amount of knowledge and experience Banks has obtained to date are poured into his work with students and clients, of all ages, who desire to develop their gifts and talents. Ocie creates custom curriculums and formulates lessons that are unique and make learning about the voice fun. His teaching approach emphasizes vocal pedagogy and vocal health. He is well sought out for his style and effective efforts to enhance, treat, and train singers and speakers.
Presently, Banks is the Choral Director at Samuel Ogle Middle School and serves as an Assistant Director for the Prince Geoge’s County Public Schools Middle School Honors Chorus. He is an active choral/vocal clinician and adjudicator. Ocie S. Banks is currently pursuing his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from Messiah University.
