School Mission & Vision

Counseling Vision: All students can be problem solvers.

Counseling Mission: My mission as the Professional School Counselor at Rockledge Elementary School is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, personal/social and career preparation/college planning needs for all students. My goal is to aid students in obtaining the knowledge and developing the ability to solve problems and navigate all of life’s challenges in a confidently assertive way in order to become life-long problem solvers who self-advocate and are able to positively contribute to a diverse society.

Some Counseling Program Components:

  • Classroom Counseling- Weekly themed lessons in the classroom

  • Small Group Counseling- Results oriented, focused on particular skill/topic

  • Individual Counseling- Brief, solution-focused, one-on-one counseling

  • Peer Mediation- 5th grade students facilitate peaceful solutions among conflicting peers

  • G.O.L.D. Committee- Generating Outstanding Leadership Development enrichment

  • Operation Reach Back (ORB)- Founder and mentor, Mr. James Riddick, serves boys in grades 4 and 5 empowering them with leadership skills by instilling five core principles: Relationship, Respect, Responsibility, Reach, and Return

  • Mindfulness Small groups- Bowie Youth and Family Services (BYFS) along with The Mindfulness Center of Bethesda facilitate weekly mindfulness groups for students in grades 4 and 5. With a licensed mindfulness coach, students learn breathing techniques, body awareness and connect them to their self-regulation.

  • Bully-Proof Committee- Plan, implement and evaluate school-wide anti-bullying efforts
