Tips for a successful school year

1. Make sure your student is at school on-time. Limit tardies and absences as much as possible. AP 5113 discusses attendance (https://www.pgcps.org/generalcounsel/index.aspx?id=179107 ).

2. Check your student's agenda books, take home folders, and syllabi. Elementary school students need help with organization and self-management. Find a system that will help them (and you) to keep track of nightly and long-term assignments.

3. Check SchoolMAX! Monitoring student grades can help you to see where your student might need extra help in different classes. You can also make sure assignments are being turned in. https://family.sis.pgcps.org/schoolmax/

4. Communicate with your student's teachers. If the teacher uses School Notes or Class Dojo make sure you are checking any postings. Email, call, or meet with the teacher periodically to check in with how your student is doing in the classroom. Let the teacher know if there are any big changes going on that could affect your child socially/emotionally and academically.

5. Check in with your student! There are so many ways to ask how your child's day was. Monitor your child's technology use and social media.
