Seal of Biliteracy en PGCPS – Maryland

El Seal of Biliteracy es un reconocimiento oficial otorgado por el estado de Maryland a los estudiantes que demuestran un nivel avanzado de competencia en dos o más idiomas. Este sello se coloca en el diploma de graduación y representa un gran logro académico y cultural.

Además, los estudiantes que lo obtienen reciben una medalla especial que podrán portar con orgullo el día de su graduación, simbolizando su esfuerzo y compromiso con el bilingüismo.

En PGCPS, los estudiantes de último año (Seniors) tienen la oportunidad de obtener este reconocimiento a través del examen STAMP 4S, el cual evalúa las cuatro habilidades lingüísticas: lectura, escritura, expresión oral y comprensión auditiva.

Los estudiantes que alcancen un nivel 6 o superior en la prueba califican para recibir este importante reconocimiento.

El Departamento de Español de Potomac High School acompaña y apoya a los estudiantes durante todo el proceso, ofreciendo información, recursos de preparación y motivación para que logren este distintivo que resalta tanto sus habilidades lingüísticas como su identidad cultural.

Seal of Biliteracy in PGCPS – Maryland

The Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition awarded by the state of Maryland to students who demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in two or more languages. This seal is placed on the high school diploma and represents a significant academic and cultural achievement.

In addition, students who earn it also receive a special medal that they may proudly wear on their graduation day, symbolizing their dedication and accomplishment in bilingualism.

At PGCPS, seniors have the opportunity to earn this recognition by taking the STAMP 4S test, which measures the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Students who achieve a score of 6 or higher qualify to receive this distinction.

The Spanish Department at Potomac High School proudly supports students in this process by providing information, preparation resources, and encouragement to help them earn this prestigious award that highlights both their language skills and cultural identity.

Seal of Biliteracy – Año Escolar 2025–2026

Durante el año escolar 2025–2026, el Departamento de World Languages de Potomac High School celebró importantes logros en el programa Seal of Biliteracy. Ocho estudiantes obtuvieron oficialmente el Maryland Seal of Biliteracy, en reconocimiento a su dominio del inglés y del español: Beverly Méndez, Selvin Mateo López, Sheila Méndez López, Bryan Saravia, Keiry Vanesa Alfaro Romero, Paola Centeno Mercado, Mauricio Ezequiel Cruz Umaña y Linda Lucía Jarquín Aragón.

Además, 21 estudiantes aprobaron exitosamente el examen STAMP, cumpliendo con el requisito de competencia en español. Ellos recibirán oficialmente el Seal of Biliteracy durante su año de graduación, una vez que también cumplan con el requisito estatal de dominio del inglés:

Seal of Biliteracy – 2025–2026 School Year

During the 2025–2026 school year, Potomac High School's World Languages Department celebrated outstanding achievements through the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy program. Eight students officially earned the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy in recognition of their proficiency in both English and Spanish: Beverly Mendez, Selvin Mateo Lopez, Sheila Mendez Lopez, Bryan Saravia, Keiry Vanesa Alfaro Romero, Paola Centeno Mercado, Mauricio Ezequiel Cruz Umana, and Linda Lucia Jarquin Aragon.

Seal of Biliteracy 2024
In 2024, 27 students were proudly recognized as Seal of Biliteracy awardees, celebrating their advanced proficiency in more than one language. While not all recipients are pictured, as a department we are extremely proud of their hard work and dedication. This recognition highlights not only their language skills but also their commitment to academic excellence and cultural diversity.

The Framework for Teaching (FFT) by Charlotte Danielson is often called the “teacher’s bible” because it provides a clear roadmap for effective teaching. It outlines four main domains—Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities—with detailed components that help teachers reflect, grow, and ensure high-quality instruction.
