Welcome to the William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center (Camp Schmidt).  It is our pleasure to host your student's school this year.  This site is designed to help you better understand what to expect when your student arrives at the Schmidt Center and how to prepare for the overnight trip.  Feel free to call the Schmidt Center office, (301) 888-1185 between 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, with any questions.

Schmidt Center T-shirts

Schmidt Center T-shirts are available for purchase for $10.00 each, including tax. (Cash only)  Shirts are available in ADULT sizes: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large.  T-shirt order form

Meals

Students and Chaperones are responsible for bringing lunch on the first day.  All overnight trip participants are provided dinner on the first day of their visit and breakfast and lunch on the second day of their visit through PGCPS Food and Nutrition Services.  For a list of the meals planned during your student's trip, please refer to the elementary lunch and breakfast menus that are available  at https://www.pgcps.org/offices/food-and-nutrition 

 

Chaperone Background Check Requirements

NEW Administrative Procedure 4215: All chaperones must now complete full background check ($56.57*) at least 14 days before the trip.  For more information visit: https://www.pgcps.org/offices/humanresources/fingerprinting#volunteer   or contact the Background Unit at 301.952.7831


*Note: "Any parent/guardian who needs assistance covering the cost of a fingerprint background check, and whose child(ren) qualify for free and reduced priced meals, may request waiver of the background check fee by providing a copy of their eligibility letter from the PGCPS Department of Food and Nutrition Services."

Contacting Students While at Camp Schmidt

Contacting students attending the overnight trip should be limited to emergencies only.  Students are actively learning in the outdoors while on campus, therefore disruption during instruction should not occur.  Schmidt Center phones are not monitored between 4:00 p.m. - 8:30 a.m.
