Theatre Arts

For the aspiring young actor, the Theatre Department offers an intense, conservatory-styled, professional training program. While the major concentration is on acting, students are given the opportunity to study technical theatre and theatre management.

The Theatre Department has a multi-level, continuous curriculum, with a scope and sequence that offers beginning to advanced techniques in acting, voice, movement, dance, stagecraft, history, and literature/criticism. The curriculum requires a high level of commitment from students. The program emphasizes individual growth and personal discovery while building ensemble. The faculty consists of working professional artists and designers who share their expertise, experiences and passion for the art of theatre.

The four-year course of study provides a multi-dimensional experience that captures the breadth and depth of theatre as an art form and exposes students to historical, contemporary, social, multicultural, and cutting-edge concepts in theatre.

Our Mission:

The Mission of the Theatre Department is to encourage an intellectual and physical curiosity in theatre through the applications of industry guidelines, learning acting methods while developing technical training, self-discipline, confidence, artistry, expression and performance artistry.

Our Values:

  • The most instructive way to learn technical acting is to develop the art form through the process of analyzing and responding to the language and skills of theatre. Including the development of mental skills and comprehension of theatre vocabulary.

  • Students should be given opportunities to develop creative expression in theatre through improvisation, creativity, and performance.

  • Students gain an understanding of the historical contributions and the cultural dimensions of acting as they learn the theatre discipline.

  • Students should be given an opportunity to develop an aesthetic value in their work and work of others.

  • Students apply what they learn in theatre to learning across subject areas.

  • Fostering professional and supportive relationships with our students is key to developing the artistic self.

  • Students should be encouraged to sustain awareness of the theatre community and be inspired to become an active supporter or professional member of the local and global theatre industries.
