Immunizations are a critical requirement for registration and continued enrollment in a Maryland State Public School. The requirements are specified by our State legislators and are spelled out in the State Code which regulates public schools statewide. MDH COMAR 10.06.04.03 determines what requirements schools must adhere to when registering and maintaining a student's enrollment in school. These are the minimal requirements for health and safety - your medical provider, on the advice of AAP (America Academy of Pediatrics) and CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) may recommend, and strongly encourage, immunizations above and beyond those required by the State of Maryland for school enrollment. It is critical that families keep, with their other vital papers and documents, a shot (or immunization) record for each child. As these immunizations records are updated please share this information with your school nurse. Hit the button below to see the immunization requirement for the upcoming school year 2020 -2021
Important information for Middle School Families:
Currently over 20 Seventh graders lack documentation of complete immunizations.
All students entering 7th grade are required to have a Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine and a Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine. These are vaccines recommended (by CDC and AAP)for 11 year olds. Proof of the vaccines must be provided prior to students entering 7th grade. It is a challenge to collect this information. Some student have had these vaccines during well child visits with their health provider but never provided the documentation to the school, other families are unaware of the requirement and have not received the vaccines. Please reach out to me at sue.righter@pgcps.org. I can quickly check if your child requires these vaccines.
If your child has health insurance please contact your primary care provider as soon as possible to arrange for those immunizations.
