Longfields TAG Program
Learning happens 365 days a year at Longfields Elementary! Each summer all TAG students are assigned a summer enrichment project to prevent summer slide. Summer slide is the lost of learning over summer break which is a contributor to the achievement gap between low-income students and their higher income peers.
We also encourage students to engage in iReady Reading & Math (select students), Scholastic Literacy Pro, & Dreambox at least 3 times a week.
1. Keeps the Brain Growing: Summer projects stop the “summer slide” and help students stay sharp, curious, and ready for the new school year.
2. Builds Independence: Students learn how to take charge of their own learning, manage their time, and follow through on a big task.
3. Strengthens Important Skills: From researching and writing to presenting ideas, students practice skills they will use throughout school and life.
4. Encourages Curiosity: Projects let students explore topics they care about and discover new interests along the way.
5. Prepares for the Future: By working on a long-term project, students build confidence, responsibility, and habits that lead to success in middle school and beyond.
Parent Tip: Ask your child to share what they’re learning along the way. A quick conversation at dinner or in the car can help them feel supported and excited about their project!
