Challenger Classroom Adventures: Aquatic Investigators

Instructors - Serena Gayles and John White

The Commander of an undersea lab informs the students that Eric and his fellow Hawaiian monk seals are missing from their usual home in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The Commander asks the class to investigate why seals left their home and determine the possible location where scientists should look for them. As they work to find the answer, a seaquake takes place damaging the undersea lab and putting the crew at risk. The team must work together to quickly repair the lab and ensure the safety of the crew. When the crisis is averted, the group returns to continue their search to find the missing Hawaiian monk seals.

Magic Tree House Space Mission

Instructor- "Planetarium" Patty Seaton

Magic Tree House: Space Mission is a story based upon the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osbourne. It takes the main characters, Jack and Annie, on an adventure to learn many different facts about space and the tools used for space exploration (space probes). They also hear from a real astronaut, Kathryn Thornton, who shares some of her experiences from living and working in space. Students are encouraged to apply what they know about weather and climate on Earth to predict what the climate is on Venus, Earth’s Moon, Mars, Jupiter’s moon, Europa, and Neptune. They use the criteria shared by Astronaut Thornton to make decisions on the top five items they should bring with them to space. Finally, they take a tour around the world to see how the diverse patterns of weather and climates make Earth a special place.
