Q: What is preselected core courses mean?

A: Preselected core course means the assumption is made you will pass your current course(s) and will be promoted to the next most logical course the following year based on your final grade in your current course(s). Here are examples:

If you are in 262903 US History, you will automatically be placed in 213103 Local, St & Nat Gv

If you are in 420693 Biology Honors, you will automatically be placed in 430193 Chemistry Honors

If you are in 323503 Algebra 1, you will automatically be placed in 344003 Geometry

If you are in 104193 Engl Lang 10 (honors), you may be placed in 105193  Advanced Placement English Language which must be requested using the Honors /Advance Placement &  Dual Enrollment Request Form

If you are enrolled in a CTE Program course, you will be scheduled for the next progressive course in the sequence for the upcoming year

Placements will be reviewed and changed if necessary by department chairs or their designees.

Q: What do I do about honors / AP courses if I want to take them but am not currently enrolled in an honors course or qualifying course progression?

A: Students must use the Honors /Advance Placement &  Dual Enrollment Request Form to verify Advanced Placement Course requests. 

Q: Once my course requests have been entered, will this be my schedule next school year?

A:  No, the words "course requests" are exactly as stated.  They are requests.  No course requests are guaranteed to be on your schedule outside of  specific core content courses needed for promotion or graduation, courses required by an IEP,  or required by a CTE program for which you may be enrolled.  Every effort is made to add an appropriate  course request to a  student schedule, but limiting factors such as: staff availability, seat availability, course demand, school resources and other course conflicts can prohibit a course from reaching the schedule.

Q: I think I'll be in a CTE program next year, or may be attending another school next year, so do I still need to complete course requests?  

A:  Yes, Students should still complete the course request process so that a schedule can be generated in event that your enrollment/program status remains the same next year.  Be advised that if you are withdrawn from Gwynn Park High School before the start of the school year, your course requests may be deleted.

Q: How do get into the Evening Virtual Program EVP full time (online without day classes)?

A:  Students should still complete the course request process but contact their counselor to discuss their options, as the course offerings are less in EVP than in the day school offering.
