Common App Information
The Common App for the Class of 2027 officially opened on August 1! Students should start or continue working on their application by completing as much information as possible in every section. Some information, such as your updated GPA, may not be available yet, and that's okay—you can update it later.
Be sure to:
Add the colleges you plan to apply to.
Continue working on your personal essay. If your essay is complete, upload it to the appropriate section of the Common App.
Review each college's application deadlines and requirements, including Early Action, Early Decision, and Regular Decision.
A few important reminders:
Use your personal email address when creating your Common App account.
Read every section carefully and completely. This is the application that colleges will review, so accuracy and completeness are important.
Do not submit your application until all required information has been completed and reviewed.
Once school begins, you will connect your Common App to SchoolLinks. We will complete that process together when you return to school.
Staying aware of important application deadlines and making steady progress on your application will help you stay organized and avoid last-minute stress.
SAT Dates
The SAT will be administered the following dates:
College Visits
The following schools are scheduled to visit the FDHS Counselling Center. To attend the visit, please retrieve a pass FIRST from the counselling center.
Trade and Apprenticeship After High School Opportunities
Steps to Explore Maryland Apprenticeship Opportunities:
Click on the apprenticeship locator link provided HERE.
Choose the “Job Seeker/Student” option.
On the welcome page, select the county closest to you or choose “All Counties,” then select an occupation.
Choose the occupation(s) that interest you and click Search.
Review the available opportunities. Click on each one and record important information, including contact details and application requirements.
Recommended Next Steps:
Reach out to the contact person for any apprenticeship opportunities that interest you. It is okay to contact more than one program.
Use your personal email address or call the contact to introduce yourself and explain your situation.
When reaching out, you can share that you are a high school senior graduating in May and are interested in learning how you can be considered for an apprenticeship opportunity after graduation.
After making contact, it is your responsibility to:
Follow up with the program.
Stay in communication.
Complete any requested steps or requirements.
Please remember that apprenticeship programs are outside of PGCPS, so the staff at Douglass does not make hiring decisions or determine who is selected. Students must take the initiative to stay organized, follow up, and actively pursue opportunities to increase their chances of securing an apprenticeship.
