A Note From the CHES TAG Coordinator

Welcome to Capitol Heights Elementary School's Talented And Gifted (TAG) Center Program! We are extremely happy that you have taken the time to visit our TAG website to get to know us .

Our TAG Center program is different from other TAG services/programs because we are a TAG Center, which means that we have at least one class that has nothing but TAG identified students in it...students receive TAG services all day. Our TAG Center Program was established in 1973 and we are proud to say that it still going strong today! In fact, during the 2018-2019 school year, our TAG program successfully merged with another program and currently we have the potential to have two TAG classes per grade level.

One of our main goals is to meet the needs of our Gifted Students who are often ignored in a regular classroom setting. It is our belief that our TAG students should be challenged and not with more work or being peer tutors...at CHES we strive to challenge our students with enrichment, research, creativity, arts integration, and critical thinking skills.

CHES has consecutively earned the EGATE (Excellence in Gifted And Talented Education) Award in 2013 and 2018. This esteemed Maryland State Award is given to schools/gifted programs that submit a comprehensive portfolio that provides documentation of twenty-one different criteria under four objectives (Identification, Curriculum, Professional Development and Program Management) directly related to the Gifted Program in their school. EGATE schools are recognized with a Governor’s proclamation and a banner, which is displayed proudly at their school. These schools serve as models for other schools seeking to achieve EGATE status or improve their school programs and services.

We hope that this information about our school and the TAG program is helpful, and if you are considering our school/TAG program, please be sure to peruse our TAG Website and do not hesitate to contact me or our wonderful principal if you have other questions!
