Lottery Questions/Answers

QUESTION: Do I have to enter my child in the TAG Lottery every year to keep his/her space in the school/class?

No, once your child has been place in the TAG Center Program, he/she will continue in the TAG school each year unless you move or decide to remove him/her from the program.

QUESTION: What happens if our family moves and our child is in the TAG Center Program?

If your child has completed at least one year in the TAG Center Program and they were place in the program through the lottery, they will be able to transfer to their new neighborhood TAG Center Program (must be in Prince George's County Public Schools). If the student has not complete a whole school year or the TAG placement is based on CHES being the home school only (Lottery wasn't entered), the student's placement in the TAG Center program will be lost. If/When you have moved contact The Office of Pupil Accounting (301-952-6300) to request your child being able to enroll in your new TAG Center neighborhood school.

QUESTION: Our TAG student has been offered a placement in the TAG Program, but we would like our non-identified TAG student to attend the school as well. What can we do?

If your TAG student has been offered a placement and your register your child at the school, a request can be made for a special transfer for the non-TAG identified sibling. The decision will be based on the availability of seats in the class requested. Also, the request can only be done when the transfer window is open. The special transfer window opens on April 19, 2022. (Complete the application as soon as possible because there are limited seats)

QUESTION: My TAG neighborhood school is "this" school, but I want my child to go to "that" TAG School...what can I do?

TAG neighborhood schools are based on boundaries, so when you enter the TAG Lottery, you do not get to select your TAG school, you are assigned based on your address (and proof of residence/address). When school begins, of your child is in his/her boundary TAG Center Program and if there are open seats in TAG centers, there will be a Late Lottery/Special Transfer and there is a slight possibility to transfer to the other TAG school if seats are available. Also, if you decided to transfer your child to another TAG center school that is not your neighborhood TAG School, transportation will not be offered.

QUESTION: What if I have two children that are TAG identified and entered in the Lottery?

The TAG Lottery will try to place both students in the TAG Center school, but in some cases, there are not available seats in specific grade levels. If a TAG student is already in a 2nd-4th TAG class for the current school year and a newly identified TAG sibling (in first grade) is entered into the lottery, they will be offered a placement (sibling placement). Sibling Placement only occurs for 1st grade TAG students and the sibling cannot be currently in 5th grade (leaving the program).

QUESTION: My child was offered a TAG Placement last year, but we did not accept it...can we accept it for this school year instead?

The TAG Placement is good for only the school year you apply. If you decide not to accept the placement, it is lost and you must enter the TAG Lottery the next school year.
