Conditional Renewal Information

Conditional Certificate - (Valid for 2 Years)

Educators who are NOT eligible for a Maryland Professional Certificate (Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate) sign a Provisional Contract, which is a ONE-YEAR contract.

First Initial Conditional Certificate

If you have NEVER held a Professional Maryland teaching certificate, to be eligible for a final two-year INITIAL Conditional Certificate, you must meet the minimum requirements within the validity dates of your certificate


Submit passing score(s) for one of the Basic Skills Test 


Complete and submit at least the required 12 credits of coursework on your Evaluation for Certification 


Final Initial Conditional Certificate

If you have met the requirements for the first Conditional Certificate but not that of a Professional Certificate, this is your FINAL two-year INITIAL Conditional Certificate:



You must submit all remaining credits of coursework and/or remaining tests and the one-year satisfactory teaching experience requirement.

Conditional Certificate to Professional Certificate

If you have met the requirements to obtain a professional certificate, please review the following:




Submit official transcripts and/or tests and complete the Renew my Unexpired Certificate or Reinstate my Expired Certificate application in your TEACH Dashboard.

Once you have submitted the necessary documents for a Professional Certificate, the Office of Certification will automatically review your documentation for salary advancement; there is nothing else for the educator to do at that time.

To reinstate your professional certificate, you must submit all requirements for the professional certificate and complete the Renew my Unexpired Certificate or Reinstate my Expired Certificate application in your TEACH Dashboard.
