Thank you for your interest in the instrumental program at Perrywood, Arrowhead, and Phyllis E. Williams. The instrumental program is available to all 4th and 5th grade students who are interested. Students may select their instrument of choice to play throughout the year. Instrument choices include flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, and cello. During the school year, students will meet twice a week for their lessons, often in a small group setting. Students will be pulled out of class during the day to attend their lessons. Therefore, each student is responsible for making up any work that they miss in their classes. In their lessons, students learn not only how to play their instrument, but other musical concepts such as reading music, writing music, and music history. Students will learn about and perform music from many different genres and cultures all over the world. Students will be expected to practice at least 15 min a day, 4 days a week. Practicing is the only way that the students will be able to improve their instrumental skills.
