•Photograph must be available for me to compare to the artwork
•You need to spend half an hour or more on the drawing
•The entire page of paper should be colored and or shaded
•No tracing
•Failure to meet these requirements will lead to a lower grade.
Homework #3 Due September 12th/13th
Still Life with a Hat and Shoe
You must create a still life with 3 or more objects
One object must be a hat, another object must be a shoe.
At least one more object must be selected and used, but you can have more than 3 objects total
Draw the still life from observation, focusing on the objects and drawing them large enough to fill all or most of the paper
You need to spend half an hour or more on the drawing
The entire page of paper should be colored and or shaded
No tracing, draw from the real life objects not from a photo you took of them.
Failure to meet these requirements will lead to a lower grade.
Homework #4 Due September 23rd/24th
Draw a picture from your imagination
you can draw anything you want, but it must be a picture of something
the thing you draw can be imaginary and imposible or something real that you drew from memory
Color is optional but the full page must be filled (background/details/shading)
30 to 60 min (or more) must be spend on this drawing
Homework #5 Due September 30th/October 1st
Do 4 contour line drawings (of the same object)
A contour line drawing is done with just lines. no shading or coloring.
1) Draw a contour line drawing that is normal
2) Do a contour line drawing without picking up your pencil. this is called a continuous contour line drawing
3) Do a blind contour line drawing, this is done without looking at the paper. You do look at what you are drawing though.
4) Draw a contour line drawing with your non dominant hand. If you are right handed, use your left. If you are left handed, use you right.
You may draw your hand, your face (in a mirror) or anything else you can see from the real world (not a photo, not something from your imagination and don't copy another artwork)
If you do not understand any of these terms, such as contour line drawing, blind contour or continuous contour try to look them up and watch a video or two about how to do them.
Please use one sheet of 9x12 paper, folded in half, do two drawings on each side, spending approx. 5 min on each
Homework #6 Due October 7th/8th
Draw something Organic
Something is organic if it is relating to or derived from living matter. Anything that is from an animal or a plant is organic.
It can be a stick, a shell, a living plant, a bone or an animal.
If its an animal (that is unlikely to stay still) you may use a photograph, otherwise it should be drawn from observation.
As always 30-60 min must be spent on this to get full credit. This means draw large, include as many details as possible, give it a background, fill the paper and shade or color (or both)
Homework # 7 Due October 14th/15th
Draw a Building
A) If you are at home, go outside and draw an actual real life building you can see.
or
B) If you are in class, you may use a photograph of a building
Be creative, lots of things are considered buildings. Houses, skyscrapers, dollhouses, dog houses, sheds, or things made out of legos. I would even consider bridges or other things that have been built even if no one can live inside of them
As always you must spend 30-60 min on the drawing, fill the entire paper and color/shade in the drawing for full credit.
Homework # 8 Due October 21st/22nd
Draw a family member or a friend
choose someone to draw, a family member or friend
It is my preference that you actually draw this person from real life. If they do not have time to sit still long enough for you to draw them, you may use a photograph
One solution is to pair up with a friend from class and you can draw each other at the same time.
As always you must spend 30-60 min on the drawing, the portrait must take up most of the paper, and it must be shaded. color is optional
Homework # 9 Due October 28th/29th
Draw the inside of a room
Draw the inside of a room or building. You must include at least 3 pieces of furniture, the floor, walls and possibly the ceiling.
This drawing must be done from observation of the inside of a room you are in, not from a photograph or your imagination
As always you must draw on blank paper, fill the page with Value and/or color. 30-60 min should be spend on this assignment.
