Homework # 1 Due November 4th/6th
1st Quarter Homework Redo
Pick an assignment you liked, or one you felt you could have done better on from last quarter
Do not draw the exact same picture, but rather start a new drawing or artwork that fulfils the requirements of the same assignment. For example, if you drew a tree for "draw something organice" draw another tree or even draw something entirely different like a bowl of fruit or an animal
Spend an hour or more on it
Make sure to bring in the original from last quarter so i can see how much better you did
Homework # 2 Due November 18th/19th
Famous Artist Assignment
Look up the following artists: Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Edmonia Lewis, Romare Bearden, Kitagawa Utamaro, Jean-Michael Basquiat and Jacob Lawrence
Look at examples of their work and read a little about each of their lives in order to choose one you like for the project. If none of them appeal or you have another artist you would like to do your project on, see me for approval.
This is a two part assignment.
Part
one:
Choose one artist and create an
artwork in the style of or inspired by their art. Do not copy their work, look at it and create an original artwork inspired by them or in their style. For example you can focus on a similar topic or subject, use the same colors, imitate their style or technique. but it must be an original artwork. An hour or more should be spend on this artwork for full credit.
Part
two:
Write an essay about the artist and why you chose them over the others. Include biographical information
about the artists life, describe their artwork and the style they are known for and explain why you liked it (and why you didn't like the others as much) This essay should be more than one page. It can be handwritten or typed (12p double space). Your name, and/or the title of the essay does not count towards this lenth requirement
Homework # 3 Due December 2nd/3rd
Doorway to your imagination
You will do a drawing of a window or doorway that when looked through you see something from your imagination that is made up or impossible.
-You will draw an open doorway or window From observation
Or
-From a photograph you took (not from someone else's photo or drawing)
This means that everything on your side of the doorway or window should be real and as realistic as possible
Make sure to draw the door or window large enough that the area your seeing thru it has room to draw another picture
Through the real doorway or window show a world or scene of something that could never really happen from your imagination
You have 2 weeks for each homework assignment this quarter. The minimum amount of time you need to get credit on your homework this quarter is 60 minutes, but to get a good grade you should be spending 2 hours or more. Anything that has less than an hours worth of work will receive a 0 as it has not shown a good faith effort.
Homework #4 Due December 16th/17th
Color Vs. Black and White drawing of photo
You will find a color photograph. you may use one you took or find one on the internet.
You will draw the same photo twice. first in full color. Then you will draw it again using only value (black,
white and grey scale)
*hint* you can remove the color from the photo to help see the value better using a photo editing program.
Each drawing must show an hours worth of work. Make sure to draw as detailed as possible and include
background. The full page should be filled for each, so you will need two peices of paper. Any blank white areas should
be intentional
If you choose to draw from real life instead of a photo that's fine. but you can not draw from your imagination or someone else's artwork.
Homework # 5 Due January 13th/14th
(you have the week of December 16th-20th before we go on break and the week of January 6th-10th after break to complete this assignment. You do not have to work on this during your break!)
Draw a portrait of your favorite celebrity
Find a photo of them in google images
It can be a photo of just their face or their whole body
draw them to the best of your ability
Draw them large enough to fill (most of) the paper
Color or shade or both
spend 60 min or more on the drawing to earn full credit.
Homework # 6 Due January 21st/22nd
Create an original Artwork
You can draw or design anything you want. It can be a realistic picture, an expressive distorted image or completely abstract (not a picture of anything at all)
The only requirements are that you spend 1 hour on the artwork and that you fill at least a 8.5x11 piece of paper. Bigger is better but that is the minimum size. Any white or blank areas of the paper must be part of the design, not simply something you didn't feel like filling in.
