"After speaking at a NENY College and Career Night I received a few email from individuals in attendance. The following is one: 'Hello, I would just like to thank you for speaking at the NENY golf workshop at Eagle Crest this past week. My name is Mason Holland and I am currently in 8th grade in Guilderland, NY. I love Taylormade and it was interesting to hear about job opportunities in the field of golf. I had the opportunity this year to job shadow a local architect because I am possibly interested in pursuing golf course design. My ultimate goal would be to play on the PGA tour some day! Living in Buffalo I hope you're a Bills fan! Thank you again. Sincerely, Mason A. Holland"

From Martha Wells: "I walked into Bellevue today, and there was a young man by the name of Derek there that had just started working for Dan. He was in one of the classes at CState this winter, and wants to go into the business! He reached out to Dan directly, went through the interview process, and will be working for Dan through October--kind of a cool story!"
"Also--last year about this time a friend of my boyfriend was interviewing with the AJGA for a summer internship (he was at Binghamton), but he knew nothing about golf. So I scheduled a call, we talked for about 90 minutes about golf/terminology/tournament software/course set up. He ended up getting the internship and loved it. Fast forward to today--he just got the job of Tournament Director for the Sun Country PGA Section. I was floored! I just wanted you to know that every little bit that you do makes a difference. Quality people from non-golf backgrounds getting into the business!"

While instructing PGA HOPE, I talked to a participant about careers in golf and PGA education. He is now a PGA Affiliate and pursuing a career in golf. I will continue to offer guidance as he completes the PGA HOPE program and transitions to his next career.
I recently helped a fellow PGA HQ Staff member complete the Qualifying Level and register as an Associate. I originally reached out regarding the Qualifying Level expiration date approaching, and that opened the door to some questions needing answered and issues needing resolved.

"LaDarrin McLane reached out to me in June of 2022. He enjoyed the game of golf and was a 5 handicap. He was successful account executive at Kraft outside of the Dallas area, but his job was not fulfilling. He reached out to me and wondered what the pathway to PGA Membership was. I explained the steps and told him to use me as a resource. Almost two years later LaDarrin reached out and informed me he is going to pursue PGA Membership and he is already working at Winstar CC outside Dallas. He is very excited to start his new career in golf and become a PGA Member."

"Michael Nicholson (Athlete at Adaptive Open) met Val D'Souza, PGA at the Adaptive Open. Cory Armstrong noticed Val's conversation with Michael and Michael's interest in becoming a PGA Professional. After listening to Trey Van Dyke speak to the athletes, Michael was excited and realized he could become a PGA Professional. Cory reached out to Mike O'Donnell about resources within the PGA of America and we were connected. Cory, Val, and I connected, we also looped in Steve McMillen because Michael is working in the Tampa area. (I think this is pretty accurate)! I connected with Michael, and Matt Hiner (PGA of America recruiter who covers the Southeast) this morning. Matt discussed the PGA of America's PAT policy and the steps toward PGA of America membership with Michael and now Michael is starting his PGA of America membership journey! Michael is going to submit his scores from the Adaptive Championships he has played in and will work with Matt Hiner on the next steps toward becoming a PGA of America Member!"

"I received a phone call from a former PGA Associate down in Southern Illinois about six weeks ago. She was suspended from the program for lack of acceptable progress as she has an injury that required surgeries that took her out of commission for a while. She is now a head golf professional and wants to get re-instated into the Associate program. She had been trying for months to get a hold of someone, but nobody was returning her calls. Somehow she received my contact information and I was able to be a liaison between her and the membership/education departments. Even after I was involved she was getting mixed messages from different employees in membership. Thankfully I was able to step in and help her and right before Christmas she officially became an Associate again. She recently messaged me and said, "Really appreciate all the help you've given me. I couldn't have done it without you."

He currently works for his family business but wants to do something he really loves and is passionate about, we recently re-connected about next steps and over the course of 2 months David Wilson and I have helped him navigate the job board, get his resume together and he just recieved an offer from Nantuckett CC which he is excited to accept. He is working towards attaining his PGA Membership and was grateful for our help throughout the process and will continue to support him going forward."

"I connected with young professional over a year ago through the PGA Championship recruitment ad that ran during national tv broadcasting he reached out through the work in golf site. He was currently working for his family's business doing supply chain/logicists for a manufacturing company. He has always been an avid golfer and recently realized that following in the footsteps of his family business may not be for him. After multiple conversations (over the past year+) we worked together to come up with a game plan for making that career change and transition into green grass role. He just told me he recently accepted his first job in the golf industry at Nantucket Country Club starting this season (he was really appreciative of my help throughout the process and super excited about his new role). He's looking forward to starting the PGA Associate program working towards attaining his PGA Membership. It was a really long process for him and after working with him for so long it was really nice to hear that he has landed his dream job and is on his way to building a new career in the golf industry! I can't wait to see what the future holds for him as I believe he is going to be a high performing PGA Member some day very soon."

"Hey Caleb,
Thank you so much for reaching out! I enjoyed the show beyond words, it was like going to Disney World for a golf addict! I enjoyed the panel and the Career Exploration Day that you all organized, it was very well thought out and planned. You were all very welcoming and friendly, which goes a very long way for someone like me who is someone who needs to warm up to people for the first time. I think, for the future, there could be a possibility for more of a participant experience: such as things like small group career exploration, brand and market understanding, and a more in depth show floor experience. Obviously, with it being my first time at the show, it was a little overwhelming and took some time to get used to but it was still overall very productive for me. I would love to be able to discuss in further detail about the show. Let me know what your schedule looks like and I look forward to talking to you soon!
All the best,
Garrett"

"I have been talking to Magnolia Lee fairly regularly since February. She had just left her job at Brook Hollow Country Club in the Dallas area where she was working in the Fitness Center and she was interested in pursuing a position in Golf Operations. She had just signed up for a TPI certification and was volunteering at some local sports events while looking for her next job. She had applied online and came across a message that promoted a conversation with a recruiter from the PGA of America and that's how she got into contact with me. She booked some time on my calendar and we talked about what she hoped to do and how she should go about it. I helped her with her cover letter and resume and she was checking the job board regularly and applying for positions that caught her attention. She has been checking in with me fairly regularly and giving me updates on her search. I'm happy to report that she is currently employed at Stonebriar Country Club as a Range Supervisor. We are still keeping in touch as she is on a 90-day trial, at which time they will review her performance and she might be able to move into a new role with the Pro Shop."

"Good morning Mr. Fisher,
Thank you very much for reaching out about Heron Creek! Im currently just getting started with Bradenton Country Club as an intern/asst pro working for Mr. Brian Lake - thanks to the DoD’s Skillbridge program. Should be registered for the PGA PGM level 1 shortly.

"Recruiting Success Story from Work in Golf call - I've been working with a gentleman, Cornelius Todd Smith, for the past few weeks helping him navigate the associate program process and opportunities within the green grass side of the industry in his area. He told me today that he just accepted a position at Glen Arbor Club in Bedford Hills, NY as a part time, starter. He was so appreciative of me and my efforts throughout the process. As an African American (who is older, looking to enter a second career in golf and pursue his PGA Membership eventually) it means so much to him to know the PGA of America cares about him and is here to help him pursue golf as a career. He is aware that he is a minority within the golf industry and the fact that I spent so much time helping him and providing resources as well as following up to see where he stands meant the world to him. It showed I genuinely care about him and his journey and he can proudly say he is on his way to a career in golf at Glen Arbor (where he starts work tomorrow)."

"Have been working with young man named John Poccia for the last few months, he is interested in making a career change from account/management to green grass job in golf. He just accepted a full time assistant position at Colts Neck Golf Club in New Jersey, his start date is April 17th. "Thank you so much for all your help, I'm grateful for everything you did to help me navigate this process and get me in my next role in the golf industry." - John"

"Greg had sent me the contact of a PQ candidate, Arthur Lonegan, and I had spoken with his father, Bryan Lonegan, about Arthur's progress through the program. Arthur has autism and was struggling with the course materials and was worried about his progress for the tests, and we were able to talk them through some of the changes with 3.1 and how to best complete each module and the quiz formats. Bryan sent along a thank you to the team, and also stated "the PGA has done more for my son than any other agency or support group we've worked with. Thank you for all that you do."

Greg Stenzel, PGA and I have been working closely with a gentleman named Bryan Lonegan, and his son, Arthur, who is autistic and currently going through the PGM program. Greg was able to help him secure a role with Woodmont CC and he's been doing fantastic ever since. His family was looking to move south so that Arthur could maintain his employment in the industry and continue to pursue his passion. Along with Keith and Doug's assistance, we were able to secure him a role and his family is thankful. Below is an email Greg and I received from Bryan, Arthur's father: "Hey Matt and Greg - Last week we went to Lake Nona for an interview and Arthur is now a full-time employee with benefits! This is everything we have worked and hoped for for five years and they seem genuinely committed to keeping Arthur for a long time to come. He starts Nov. 11 and we are moving to Orlando in three weeks! The PGA and the golf industry in general deserve a lot of credit. This opportunity will allow Arthur to be self-sufficient in a position he loves.
Thanks for all your efforts and advice. -Bryan"

"Griffin Baig reached out to me through a Work in Golf call. He has a passion for golf but had never worked in golf before. He had been working as a security guard. I talked to him quite a bit about the green grass path and PGA membership. He struggled to get hired anywhere at first due to his lack of experience, but with my referral, Bayou Oaks at City Park hired him as a Golf Shop Coordinator. He is also now registered for Q Level and I have heard good reports from staff. He has been doing well and the staff enjoy working with him. I'm glad I was able to help him pursue something he loved."
