What were the key outcomes or takeaways from this mentoring opportunity?:
Due to the lack of an active Assistants Association in our section, the membership committee took the lead in putting together an outlet for Associates, PQ’s and QE’s to get in the same room on two separate occasions this season.
The first meet and greet was held in May and was put on by our section’s Secretary/VP, John Dipollina, Director, Alex Caviliere (Cohort IX) and I with the help of our section’s Executive Director, Dennis Dungee, and our Employment Consultant, David Wilson.
For that day, we had 21 participants to what was titled as a “CT Section Mentoring Day” that took place at the Golf Center at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield. The first portion of the day consisted of greetings to the group from the four mentors, giving the Associates a little background on our journey and experiences. We then sent it around the room for everyone to introduce themselves and explain their “Why am I here?”
At this time in May, the mentors were not fully clued into the specifics of the PGA 3.1 PGA/PGM program. We continued an open floor discussion and Q&A to try to get a feel for where these participants needed the most help.
We closed out the educational portion of the day by letting the participants openly discuss topics amongst themselves. We described networking amongst peers as an invaluable asset. The day then shifted to lunch and optional golf on a short course with a one-club challenge.
At the conclusion of the day, the mentors felt we had built exciting momentum amongst the participants and knew we had to plan another mentoring day for them ASAP.
The second day came at the end of October and was hosted at the First Tee of CT facility in Cromwell. Mentors were section Secretary/VP, John Dipollina, VP at Large, Ian Marshall, Executive Director, Dennis Dungee and I. The day hosted another 20 participants, with 10 of them being fresh faces.
The day was a bit more formatted as the mentors were now more aware of the subjects to be covered in the current 3.1 program. We discovered some participants were still trying to get through the 3.0 program too.
We began very similarly with introductions of mentors and participants and then after a brief time we were able to break out into different round table groups to work on the three pathways that Level 1 students can take. Once again networking was highlighted. A list of mentors within the CT Section was distributed. The day concluded once again with lunch and optional golf at TPC River Highlands.
The mentors and participants again finished the session feeling extremely optimistic and discussed the possibility of bi-weekly calls and quarterly meetings amongst PQ’s, QE’s and Associates. Since this meeting, the program was highlighted at the CT Section Annual Fall Meeting and the board is excited to see where we go next with this mentoring initiative.

What were the key outcomes or takeaways from this mentoring opportunity?:
Our Employment / Mentorship Committee began hosting Associate "Study Hall" opportunities. The program included the following basic schedule:
2-Hours: Indoor Orientation Session and Study Hall
9+ Holes of Golf for Teambuilding and Camaraderie
Orientation includes basic information about PGA membership, assistance going through the PGM program, and career opportunities. The overall goal is to show them the value of pursuing membership. Following our basic presentation (see attached example), we offer dedicated time for associates to work on their course work with assistance from the on-site mentors as needed. If some of them are waiting on a seminar, etc, then we will often suggest they sign up for PGA.coach, work on ADM certification, or help mentor others within the room who are at the same level.
We are booking these events as quickly as possible and have started to couple them with other opportunities such as showcasing existing members in their current roles to demonstrate career options in golf. So far, we are averaging about 2 per quarter. Our section career consultant, Doug Wert, has been in attendance at each event and is a tremendous on-site mentor to discuss resume prep, interviewing, and other career services.
The attached example was a Study Hall hosted at the Atlanta Athletic Club this February. We had our typical 45-minute orientation but then followed that with a 45-minute presentation on PGA member, Shawn Koch's impressive instruction business at AAC. His presentation was incredibly beneficial to everyone in the room.
We have also expanded these opportunities to include what we are calling Associate "Field Trips." Our first Field Trip was to Mizuno's North American Distribution Center in Braselton, GA to witness their club manufacturing and shipping departments. It was fascinating!
It has been wonderful to see our associates coming together, learning, and encouraging each other to move through their levels. We believe our Study Hall program will have a tremendous impact to convert associates to membership.

Our goal in hosting this event was to bring together existing female PGA members, associates, and other industry experts. We included guest speakers, featuring a variety of topics including career enhancement, generating an instruction business, retail merchandise management, and general empowerment. We discussed challenges related to females in the industry and included an outdoor putting contest at the end of the event. Many of the attendees were interested in becoming PGA Associates so the event also became a great recruitment tool to improve the diversity within our section.

South Central PGA Associate Mentoring Support Program 2025
The Membership Committee has been preparing for the 2025 SCPGA Spring Meeting and specifically the Associate Mentoring Workshop & Breakout session since Mid-September 2024.
The section sent out and email from Jim Young and Tony Biata to all decision makers at each respective facility section wide on 12/20/24, the ask was to allow and strongly encourage their associates to attend the section meeting and specifically the Mentoring Workshop. There would be no charge for associates and other prospects interested in becoming a PGA member. We’re also encouraging decision makers to allow associates to do PGA required education while at work provide there is down time and adequate coverage.
A save the date and registration email was also sent out to all associates on 12/20/24 encouraging registration.
The Section’s Associates were divided by Chapter and assigned a committee member in each chapter to reach out and solicit associates to attend our spring meeting and be part of the Associate Mentoring Breakout.
The committee created a calling script and specific email to associates to be used leading up to the section meeting.
As of February 20, 2025, we had 66 associates registered for the mentoring workshop, the Membership Committee exceeded their goal to have at least 60 associates attending.
Meeting Agenda 8:30am to 11:30 am. Opening comments from Jim Young, Section Secretary Tony Biata, Membership Chair Tony Luczak UCO PGM Director and Trevor Dudak, became a PGA member in 18 months.
8:50 am Workshop begins the room will be divided into three groups. Business Operations, view a live lesson being conducted and take a lesson from a section Teacher of the year. There were two stations containing a mat, net, and Trackman for each live lesson presentation.
Another committee goal is the establish small study groups within the sections four chapters. The chapter groups will be formed from the SCPGA Associate Mentoring Support workshop. We will continue with virtual meetings throughout the year along with compiling study group information on the SCPGA Google Sheet for all associates to share regardless to their location.
The SCPGA Membership Committee is also planning an Associate Mentoring Retreat to be conducted at the University of Central Oklahoma in mid-December 2025.
The Membership Committee has been honored to help our sections associates and will continue to offer programs to assist in gaining PGA membership!

What were the key outcomes or takeaways from this mentoring opportunity?:
All associates were assigned to a veteran member who had volunteered to serve as a mentor. Associates were assigned (3-5 per mentor) based on career path and geography. Mentors were asked to reach out to their assigned associates and start a conversation regarding career aspirations and any potential assistance that could be offered. The mentors also encouraged the associates to attend the section meeting, participate in playing opportunities, and actively pursue education being offered. The mentors provide positive influence on at-risk associates while providing an additional networking contact for those already working with a positive role model or mentor.

What were the key outcomes or takeaways from this mentoring opportunity?:
This event was built by our Recruiting and Career Services representatives. Lucas Brick and Sirene Blair. The goal was to help educate our members on the current Associate Program. We feel it is very important that those mentoring our associates should have a basic idea of the current process to be elected to membership. Kyle Helms joined us which was a fantastic addition to the conversation from an HQ perspective. Those that joined were very pleased with the content. I felt most of them left motivated to push their associates through the program. They also provided the Member/Associate mentoring guide. It was such a great session. Moving forward I am confident we will have more members join us on these bi-annua calls.

What were the key outcomes or takeaways from this mentoring opportunity?:
This was an opportunity provided by our Recruiting and Career Consultant, Lucas Brick and Sirene Blair. They put together the content and presented. The Section helped advertise, and I attended as a section staff member to help new associates get to know more about the section staff and what we do. Most of the meeting was reviewing the process of getting through the associate program. We had everyone introduce themselves and what level they were in. ALL of them were level 1. We are finding once the associates are in level 2, they have a good grasp on what they need to do. It was neat to help this group network, find friends to study with, give best practice ideas on how to get through the program.
