The following practices and policies are in effect for the 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Please provide your caddie with this information. Polices are subject to change.
REGULATIONS
Caddies are permitted to enter the locker room to deliver/retrieve contestant’s items.
During practice rounds, caddies may walk on the greens to study the green complexes, so as long as this does not interfere with the practice of any Player. Additionally, during the tournament proper, when not caddying during a round, caddies are not allowed inside the gallery ropes on any hole that has been played or is being played by the lead group.
Caddies are only allowed on the practice putting greens to retrieve chip shots or long putts. This may only be done provided the putting green is not crowded.
All caddies not assigned to a Player in advance may obtain a bag only through the Caddie Chair.
Caddies are requested to wait in the caddie area when not performing their duties.
Caddies may not bet or wager on any aspect of the Championship, nor may they provide any information concerning a contestant and/or the Championship to a party that the caddie knows, or has reason to believe, will use or is likely to use the information in connection with gambling on the Championship. Caddies shall promptly notify the PGA of America if they are approached by a third party requesting or providing information that the caddie knows, or has reason to believe, will be used in connection with gambling on the Championship.
ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2023, THE 1ST TEE CLOSES AT 3:00PM. CADDIES MAY NOT WALK ON ANY GREEN BEHIND THE CHAMPIONSHIP SET-UP COMMITTEE.
Green Reading Materials Restrictions at the Championship
The only approved materials that may be used under Model Local Rule G-11 (Green Reading Materials Restrictions) include:
PGA of America Approved Yardage Book – 2023 (Provided to player and caddie at registration)
Daily hole-location sheet provided by the PGA of America
Any course map (meaning a map of the entire course) printed on a document that is no larger than letter (8 1⁄2” x 11”) or A4 (8 1⁄4” x 113⁄4”) sized paper.
Use of Distance Measuring Devices at the Championship
The use of distance-measuring devices will be allowed at the 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship during competition rounds in accordance with Rule 4.3a(1) in the Rules of Golf. To help clarify what this means:
Distance and Directional Information:
Allowed: Getting information on distance or direction (such as from a distance-measuring device or compass).
Not Allowed: Measuring or calculating elevation changes, wind speed, “effective yardages” or interpreting distance or directional information (such as using a device to get a recommended line of play or club selection based on the location of a player’s ball).
If a distance-measuring device has any additional functionality referenced as not allowed above, the use of any such additional function would be a breach of Rule 4.3a(1).
We are hopeful that allowing the use of such devices will help players and caddies determine their yardages and club selection in a more efficient manner.
If you have any questions on the use of such devices during competition rounds we encourage you to speak with or ask any PGA of America Rules Committee Member.
