Caddies and golf bags are prohibited in the Player Locker Room. Bag storage is available and is located in the Caddie Services area. Caddies are only permitted to enter the locker room to deliver/retrieve a Player’s items.
During practice rounds, caddies may walk on the greens to study the greens’ complexities, as long as this does not interfere with the practice of any Player. Additionally, during the tournament proper, when not caddying during a round, caddies are not allowed inside the gallery ropes on any hole that has been played or is being played by the lead group.
Caddies may not walk on greens when checking hole locations, nor may they interfere with play during practice or tournament rounds. Caddies are only allowed on the practice putting greens to retrieve chip shots or long putts, provided that the putting green is not crowded at such time.
The first tee time for practice rounds will be 7:00 a.m. so that maintenance workers are able to work and not come into contact with players and caddies.
On Wednesday, May 17, the 1st tee closes at 3:00 p.m. Caddies may NOT walk on any green behind the Championship Set-up Committee, who will start on Hole #1 at 3:00 p.m., and hole #10 at 5:15 p.m.
All caddies not assigned to a Player in advance may obtain a bag only through the Caddie Committee Chair.
Caddies may not bet or wager on any aspect of the PGA Championship, nor may they provide any information concerning a Player and/or the PGA Championship to a party that the Caddie knows, or has reason to believe, will use or is likely to use the information in connection with gambling on the PGA Championship.
Caddies must always wear their PGA Championship caddie credential given to them at Caddie Registration while on premises of the PGA Championship. This credential gains access to areas relative to caddie assignments as well as access into caddie dining.
Caddies must wear smooth, rubber-soled shoes. No golf spikes of any kind will be permitted.
All caddies shall present a neat appearance, appropriate to a Major Professional Golf Championship in both clothing and grooming. All caddies must wear a collared shirt. Caddies are allowed to wear matching apparel to their Players.
Male Caddies: May wear shorts or slacks during ALL rounds of competition. Shorts must be hemmed, not more than 2” above the knee, and professional looking in appearance.
Female Caddies: May wear shorts, skorts, golf skirts/dresses or slacks during ALL rounds of competition. All attire must be hemmed appropriately for a Major Professional Golf Championship.
Caddie bibs should be picked up at Caddie Services at the beginning of each day/round. While on the course, all caddies must wear their assigned bibs. Please take care not to cover the Player's name on the back of the bib. Bibs should be returned to the containers in the scoring area behind the clubhouse.

All sponsorships, endorsements, name and likeness arrangements and promotional activities (collectively, “sponsorships”) of any participant in the PGA Championship are subject to this policy.
The use of distance-measuring devices will be allowed at the 2023 PGA Championship during competition rounds in accordance with Rule 4.3a(1) in the Rules of Golf. To help clarify what this means:
Allowed: Getting information on distance or direction (such as from a distance-measuring device or compass).
Not Allowed: Measuring or calculating elevation changes, wind speed, “effective yardages”, greens diagrams, green contours or interpreting distance or directional information (such as using a device to get a recommended line of play or club selection based on the location of a player’s ball).
If a distance-measuring device has any additional functionality referenced as not allowed above, the use of any such additional function would be a breach of Rule 4.3a(1).
We are hopeful that allowing the use of such devices will help players and caddies determine their yardages and club selection in a more efficient manner.
If you have any questions on the use of such devices during competition rounds we encourage you to speak with or ask any PGA of America Rules Committee Member.
The PGA of America has two new Local Rules in effect as of Jan 1, 2022. Players and caddies must note:
1. Greens Reading Materials:
Previous year’s yardage books and other yardage books or green books MUST NOT be used.
The only materials approved for use are:
- Rules Committee approved yardage book for 2023.
- Hole-location sheet issued by the Rules Committee.
- Full course map on paper no larger than 8.5” x 11” or A4 size.
Do NOT alter the graphics in the approved yardage book or hole-location sheet.
Handwritten notes that could help read a putt may be kept so long as those notes are from the player or caddies own experiences, judgment, or practice. These notes must meet the yardage book “size limit”.
NO outside data to help read a putt can be copied into the approved book as notes, e.g., from a green book. NO devices may be used on the greens on the course to create notes, e.g., such as using a level.
Printed charts used to read greens may NOT be used or copied as notes, but they may be memorized e.g., AimPoint charts or alike. AimPoint Express without use of a chart is allowed.
2. 46” Maximum Club Length:
A player must NOT use a club (other than a putter) with a finished length longer than 46.2”.
A measuring tool is available on the driving range or in the Rules office to check your club-length.
IT IS A PLAYER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO APPLY THE RULES OF GOLF DURING A ROUND.
