In order to meet the needs of our campers and have the ability to care for them we must collect personal information about them and their families. All of the information gathered is stored in our files which are secured in our locked offices and processed in a secure database with access controls. The information is given only to those staff who are directly involved in providing a service to your camper, or as required by law. When information is given to a service provider employed by Camp Rainbow Phoenix, we have made certain that the service provider and its employees have a Privacy Policy that prevents them from using the information for any other purpose than that for which they were hired. We do not sell or rent your family information to any company, organization or individual. Even when asked for any personal information of a camp family by other camp families, we will not provide them with any information without first asking for consent by the family about which the information was requested. Besides the care and transportation of your camper and our ability to communicate with you and your family, we do use the information on hand for statistical analysis for our camp, and to develop programs required for the future. We do retain your information to enable us to communicate with you in the future, provide your camper with recognition for time spent at camp, provide you with information about our programs, and inform you of information that we feel may be of interest to you.
Please note that our camp is NOT first come, first served. We prioritize removing barriers and recognize that access to technology can be a barrier for some campers and their families when applying to camp. We have a selection committee that reviews all applications and determines the campers that need camp, would benefit the most from camp, etc. We also aim to ensure that we have campers from BIPOC communities participating as well.
We advise you to be as open and honest on your applications as you can. Your answers to the questions help the selection committee determine what kind of fit you would be at camp, and what your purpose for coming to camp would be.
Missing your parents is natural! Everyone misses home at some point in their life, regardless of how old they are. Our staff are really good at helping you to get over this feeling if it happens to you and helping you have an awesome time at camp!
Our new location is located on water, with the campsite providing us with trained and certified lifeguards. As a team, we will ensure that lifeguards are respectful, inclusive, and educated on trans and other gender diverse identities. We also recognize that not all campers may be comfortable with participating in swimmings due to gender dysphoria or other related reasoning and some campers may not be able to swim, and so alternate activies will be planned during swim times.
*Swimming will only be permitted during designated swim times, with a trained and certified lifeguard is present. Upon acceptance, please be sure to read our new 'Open Water' camp policy.
We do not disclose the location of camp publicly for a couple reasons.
The first and most important is safety. We want to keep our campers safe and by not publicly sharing the location, we can decrease the amount of people that may show up at camp in protest of our goals and mission camp. The current climate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community tells us that we need to ensure privacy and safety for our campers.
The second is to allow our campers to get the most out of the camp experience. If a parent was to show up at camp, it could derail the entire experience for that camper. We want them to be their authentic selves while they are with us and feel comfortable doing so.
Parents/Guardians will be informed of camp's location a week prior to camp. In the sake of keeping your children safe, we ask that you don't publicly share this location with anyone.
We aim to have a 6:1 to 8:1 camper to staff ratio.
Cell phones are prohibited. We also do not allow campers to have any electronic device that have the ability to connect to mobile internet. We want the camper to be immersed in the camp experience. It also allows us to keep our location safe as many apps show users' locations (e.g. Snapchat, Whatsapp, etc.).
If a camper brings a cell phone to camp, we will store it in our locked safe while they stay with us.
We do allow campers to bring music consoles for sleep purposes. They sign their device out with the night staff and turn it back in when they wake up. These devices should not be connected to the internet/cellular data, or have airplane mode turned on.
Camp Rainbow Phoenix is an allergy-aware facility. We do not use nuts or nut products in our food services. We hire a catering company for all our meals and snacks. We are able to accommodate a wide range of allergies and other dietary restrictions such as gluten-free diets, lactose-free diets, religious accommodations, etc.
You will have an allergy and dietary form to fill out if your child is accepted into camp. Please note that Camp Rainbow Phoenix cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free facility.
