Engineering Design and Problem Solving (EDPS) is the capstone course for Hendrickson High School's engineering program. EDPS reinforces and integrates skills learned in previous mathematics and science courses. This course emphasizes solving problems, moving from well defined toward more open ended, with real-world application. Students apply critical-thinking skills to justify a solution from multiple design options. Additionally, the course promotes interest in and understanding of career opportunities in engineering.
This course is intended to stimulate students' ingenuity, intellectual talents, and practical skills in devising solutions to engineering design problems. Students use the engineering design process cycle to investigate, design, plan, create, and evaluate solutions. At the same time, this course fosters awareness of the social and ethical implications of technological development.

When cars are left outside in any season the “concentrated sunlight can cause the temperature of the plastic to increase rapidly, which can lead to melting” (TurfShield, 2023). On average, plastics have a melting temperature of about 70℃ (158℉), which is often reached as a result of focused ultraviolet light (Plastikcity, 2023). This frequently happens if cars are unprotected from the sun.

Insulin Pumps are used by both type 1 and type 2 Diabetics everywhere. Without them, effectively managing blood sugar was almost impossible. While Pumps have been beneficial, there is always room to improve. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016, around 1.6 million people died from Diabetes, and in 2015, over 30 million people were diagnosed with it (Diabetes (2023) World Health Organization). Diabetics account for a large part of the world's population, and all require pumps to live relatively normal lives.

The excessive, uncontrollable sweating of the hands results in stressful difficulties and confidence-wrecking situations for many individuals. In particular, this may interfere with the abilities and skills of athletes during sport competitions and throughout their physical training. Sweaty hands have been proven to be a common problem by many sources, especially when an estimated 7.8 million individuals of the population have hyperhidrosis according to an article published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (Kamudoni, 2017). While the issue of sweaty hands is common and known based on various academic journeys and commercial markets, there are few existing solutions that are regarded as effective, cost-efficient, and require no medical treatment or daily medications.

People with dislocated knees and a torn ligament, who don’t do the surgery, need a good knee brace because their knee can give out at any time and to help with the pain (Paluska & McKeag, 2020) . Knee braces aren’t very durable, and if they last longer and comfortable they are typically custom made which results to be quite costly (France & Paulos, 2020) . Some users have an allergic reaction to the material used, cause pain or is uncomfortable to the user, and can only be used for simple daily activities("ACE™ Brand Adjustable Knee Support with Side Stabilizers", 2020).
The average durability of most knee braces is 4-6 months. This is due to the velcro, as it stops sticking to one another it detaches and causes the whole brace to fall off your leg(Lite,2020). I will make a survey that will gather information of what brands the individual uses, how long they last, whether they had surgery or not, and how often they use it.
