Junior year is a tough year academically, and we appreciate how hard you are going to be working, especially as we start the year off virtually. This page is for both parents/guardians and students, and will have general information about the expectations for class, as well as separate pages (linked at the top) for each teacher to share class information with you.
All expectations of the students will be posted in Google Classroom. If you would like to receive weekly summaries of your student's classroom, please email your teacher and request that they invite you to Google Classroom. They will enter it in and you will automatically be in all your student's Google Classrooms (you only need one teacher to add you). Links to Zoom meetings will be posted there for security, and your individual teacher will post Parent Office Hours separately, again, for security.
Students will go to classroom.google.com and login with their PfISD login. Passwords were reset to the default: xMMDDPF!
The State and District guidelines make it clear that students should attend class during the scheduled times. The District has posted the Return to Learn: Virtual Learning guidelines on its website.
Synchronous Zoom Meetings will be scheduled by each teacher, and posted accordingly. The expectation is that students will attend their synchronous time according to their class schedule.
The rest of class will be asynchronous time for students to work on their assignments, or follow any directions given by their teacher on Google Classroom.
If you cannot attend synchronously one day, please make sure to fill out the attendance form or do the assigned work anyway to be counted present no later than 4:30pm that day. This should not be a regular occurrence, and parents will be contacted if too many synchronous meetings are missed.
PfISD’s Virtual Learning Live Interactions: Privacy & Confidentiality
Students should work for remaining class time on their assigned work from Google Classroom, just as if we were in the physical school building. Due dates will be posted for every assignment. (Be sure to "Mark as done"!)
The State and District guidelines make it clear that students should attend class during the scheduled times. Your teacher may post a Daily Check-In form on Google Classroom that students should complete each class day. If the student attends the mandatory Zoom meeting, they will be counted as present for the day. If a student misses the Zoom meeting, they can still be counted present if they complete their assigned work or fill out the Daily Check-In form. Please complete the form by the end of the school day (4:30pm) each day to avoid unnecessary paperwork to correct attendance.
The district expectations are that the grading and late work policy are the same as for in-person classes. These policies are also outlined in greater detail in my syllabus (linked below) and welcome video for students.
Grading Policy: Percentages are different for each course, please visit the appropriate class tab at the top to view the syllabus with specific grade breakdowns.
Late Work: All due dates will be posted in Google Classroom. If a student turns work in late, there will be a 20% penalty to the grade. I usually give a week to complete each assignment, so students always have time to attend tutorials and ask questions before anything is due. Please click "Turned In" on the assignment when it is complete and you are ready for me to check/grade it.
We will be updating Skyward regularly, so you will be able to track specific assignments through the same grading system we will use during in-person instruction. Do not rely on grades in Google Classroom, all official grades will be in Skyward.
***If you need a parent account in order to check grades, please contact kara.tappendorf@pfisd.net.***
Please visit the district website for information on how to receive meals during virtual learning. Additionally, I ask that you please complete the USDA Income Verification Form found on that site, even if you are unsure if you qualify, as this may allow your student to pay a reduced fee for their AP, SAT, and ACT exams.
