Director of Bands
Hi! My name is Mrs. Hernandez and I am starting my 22nd year of teaching and my 11th year here with Pflugerville ISD. In my 21 years, I taught elementary music for the first three years, and then made the switch to middle school band these last 19 years and loved it! During my time as an elementary music teacher, I completed my Level I & II Orff-Schulwerk courses with Central Texas Orff at Trinity University in San Antonio. I was also Treasurer of the Wild Horse Desert Orff Chapter; an organization that hosted many opportunities for professional development for elementary music teachers. After becoming a band director, I taught at Trautmann Middle School in Laredo, TX. I led the CCC Non-Varsity Bands to receive eight consecutive U.I.L. Sweepstakes Awards. I also taught the middle school colorguard, assisted with the varsity and sub non-varsity bands, and consistently earned the most seats in the region band. Several of my middle school students also competed (and qualified) at the high school level at the TMEA All-District and All-Region auditions. Prior to opening Bohls, I was the Director of Bands at Westview Middle School, where we earned three consecutive sweepstakes awards and three consecutive first division ratings in concert or sight reading. My bands have consistently won Best in Festival and Best in Class at the annual SoundWaves Music Festival in New Braunfels, TX.
Prior to becoming an educator, I earned a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Texas State University in San Marcos. During this time, I was active in the Bobcat Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Tau Beta Sigma Sorority for Bands, and Golden Key International Honor Society. In 2010, I also earned a Masters in Music Education from Texas A & M University in Kingsville, TX. I received the TMEA Graduate Scholarship while completing my graduate work.
When I am not working, I love to travel. I love America's National Parks, and seeing all of them is definitely a bucket list item. I enjoy hiking, biking, reading, and playing video games. I live in Round Rock with my wonderful husband and our two French Bulldogs, Zeus and Athena.
Associate Director of Bands
Greetings! My name is Derrell Wallace. I am starting my 9th year of teaching and my 4th year here in Pflugerville ISD. I began my career by returning to my hometown of Terrell, Tx where I taught for 4 years. To be able to give back to the community that I came from is something that was always important to me and a time that I will always cherish. While there, I was able to lead the middle school campus to its first superior ratings in the non varsity ensemble the town had ever received. During that time I also was very active with the high school marching band by running visual and full ensemble rehearsals.
Before becoming a band director, I attended Texas A&M University – Commerce and earned a degree in Music Education. As a student, I sat as principal tubist in the university’s wind ensemble, participated in jazz band, various chamber ensembles, served as president of Phi Mu Alpha (Pi Psi) and marched with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2010 & 2011 seasons. Upon the completion of that degree, I attended Oklahoma City University where I received my Master’s in Tuba Performance. During this time I assisted with the direction of various marching bands in both North Texas and Central Oklahoma. Musically, when I’m not teaching middle school band, I serve as the Low Brass Coordinator for Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps.
In my free time I enjoy kayaking, fishing, cooking, traveling and spending time with Pitbull, Apollo.
I am beyond excited to create a student-centered culture where reciprocated positive influence is the constant. The most valuable thing we can offer in life, to both ourselves and others, is time and cannot wait to spend my time with the community that is Bohls Middle School.
