Every year the local elementary schools rely on PHS volunteers for 6th grade camp. The campers so appreciate time with PHS students! It does mean missing 4 days of school, students need to coordinate with their teachers to make up missed work.

VOLUNTEER!
I work for the local nonprofit Daily Acts, and I wanted to reach out with a volunteer opportunity for Petaluma High School students! We will be hosting a community planting day at Tahola Lane Pocket Park in Petaluma on Saturday, October 11th, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and we would gladly welcome student involvement.
This small but mighty park has been redesigned with input from local neighbors, and now it’s time to bring the vision to life. With volunteer help, we’ll add native grasses, food-bearing trees, and pollinator plants that will make the space greener, cooler, and more welcoming for everyone.
Our goal is to gather 30 volunteers so we can complete the planting in a single day. Lunch will be provided, and Daily Acts staff will be on hand to guide the work. Attendees just need to bring their energy and we’ll take care of the rest!
For those who are unable to join us that date but still want to get involved, we will also be hosting a sheet mulching event at Petaluma City Hall on Saturday, November 8th and additionally host regular Garden Stewards garden maintenance events around Petaluma. With gratitude,
Aidan Manousos (he/him)

VOLUNTEER for PETALUMA MINI LIBRARY
There is an opportunity for teen volunteers at the mini branch to help with the Butter & Egg parade. We need paper flower makers and marchers in the parade. We're not usually taking volunteers with our space issues, but this is an exception:) The start date is March 18th - a couple of weeks away.
McKinley/PACS Volunteers Needed
Do a good deed with your off period by heading back to your alma mater!
The principal is asking for volunteers to help run stations at recess and lunch with McKinley/PACS students. If you are interested in design, marketing, psychology, sociology, or child development this could be a great way to do some ethnographic observations!
They need 3 students daily from 10am to 11am and then again from 11:55 to 1pm

Cheerleading Volunteer Opportunity for After-Care Program
We are seeking cheerleaders to volunteer their time to teach a group of Cinnabar students at our after-care program.
A group of girls approached us about adding cheerleading. They are already practicing their own routines and are excited about the possibility of working with high school cheerleaders.

The PTSA is looking for 2-3 volunteers with past babysitting experience to provide childcare on 3/25 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM in the PHS College & Career Center.
PTSA is offering a free parent event in the PHS Library that evening, called 'What I Wish My Parents Knew", and we are hoping that by offering childcare more parents will be able to attend.

Is Volunteering Rewarding in Itself?
By STEPHAN MEIER

Final version received 10 July 2006.
Volunteering constitutes one of the most important pro-social activities. Following Aristotle, helping others is the way to higher individual wellbeing. This view contrasts with the selfish utility maximizer, who avoids helping others. The two rival views are studied empirically. We find robust evidence that volunteers are more satisfied with their life than non-volunteers. The issue of causality is studied from the basis of the collapse of East Germany and its infrastructure of volunteering. People who lost their opportunities for volunteering are compared with people who experienced no change in their volunteer status.
"In the United States, around 50% of all adults do volunteer work, and this constitutes an equivalent of 5 million full-time jobs. In Europe, on average 32.1% of the population do volunteer work, constituting an equivalent of 4.5 million full-time jobs (Anheier and Salamon 1999, p. 58).2 "
"People who volunteer frequently are more likely to report greater life satisfaction than non-volunteers "
