Summer Academy 2024
PCPS Summer Academy is an exciting opportunity that provides elementary, middle, and high school students with multiple options for enrichment, S.T.E.M. career exploration, credit-recovery and remediation. Summer Academies will be held at the following PCPS school sites:
Pleasants Lane Elementary for grades K-5 and Petersburg High school for grades 6-12.
(K means students that have already completed Kindergarten and will be rising 1st graders in fall 2024)
Student Registration will begin on April 18, 2024. Applications will be available online and supplemented by a few paper forms at all schools.
The deadline to register for Summer Academy 2024 is May 31, 2024.
There will be a cap on the number of registrations and students will not be permitted to attend if they attempt to register past the deadline.
Summer Academy 2024 dates are:
Full session
June 24 - July 25, 2024
Grades 9-12
June 24, 2024 - July 25, 2024 - Monday through Thursday
(No classes on Fridays or July 4, 2024 for grades 6-12)
Grades K-5 (K means students that have already completed Kindergarten and will be rising 1st graders in fall 2024)
June 24, 2024 - July 25, 2024 - Monday through Thursday with Fridays reserved for the following:
Enrichment activities and field trips will take place for K-5 Summer on Fridays directed by the Petersburg YMCA
(Attendance is required on Monday-Thursday to be eligible for any Friday activity/field trip. (More information is available once the YMCA receives a separate completed registration form for the Power Scholars Academy Program. Once you register for the PCPS Summer Academy 2024 , you will be contacted separately by the Petersburg YMCA).
You MUST REGISTER separately for the YMCA program to be considered for their program. Spaces are limited and there is a registration deadline.
(No classes for K-5 on Thursday, July 4, 2024 & Friday, July 5, 2024)
Summer Academy locations:
Pleasants Lane Elementary School for grades K-5 (Fridays will be reserved for field trip days for K-5 students with the Petersburg YMCA exclusively)
Petersburg High School for grades 6-12
Summer Bridge MS math program- Petersburg HS
Summer Academy Grades 6-12 dates:
Summer Academy dates run from Monday, June 24, 2024 - Thursday, July 25, 2024
Summer Bridge MS Math program runs from July 15, 2024 - July 25, 2024
Sixth Grade Summer Math Bridge-Up Program is designed for rising 6th grade students that are on the advanced math track and will be enrolled in Pre-Algebra for sixth grade. This is a two week course that will assist students with the preparation of taking advanced math, learning strategies and building upon a strong math foundation.
Summer Academy hours:
Grades K-5 Summer Academy hours are from 8:30 AM- 1:30 PM including Fridays
Grades 9-12 Summer Academy hours are from 8:00 AM- 12:30 PM
(Students taking only one credit recovery course will be released at 10:30 AM)

Summer Academy Attendance/Truant Protocol
After a student has incurred one unexcused absence the teacher will attempt contact with the student’s parents or guardian; this attempt shall be recorded in the designated form. If a student has incurred two unexcused absences the Summer Academy site administrator will attempt to make contact with the student’s parent or guardian; this attempt shall be recorded in the designated form.
Additionally, the Summer Academy AP/Coordinator(s) will send an attendance warning letter to the students’ registered mailing address. If a student has incurred three unexcused absences the Summer Academy AP/Coordinator(s) will attempt to contact the student’s parents or guardian.
If a student fails to improve their attendance after these contact attempts, they will be withdrawn from Summer Academy.
